his role as curator and sub-creator was enormously valuable.
If it wasn’t for his absolute studiousness in collecting, aggregating, and preserving his father’s writings, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the legindarium nearly to the extend we do today.
In short, Christopher Tolkien was very quietly one of the most important literary figures on the 20th century.

I seem to remember there being a split in the rest of the family or something about the future of JRR's work and media rights when Christopher eventually passed, but I could be wrong on that.
Someone who is a much bigger LOTR nerd than me (ie I barely pay attention) will know a lot more.

RIP. Without that man, I wouldn't be half the nerd I am today.
Any of y'all watch the Tolkien biopic?

Damn. Finished the trilogy for the second time about a month ago. Was looking into Unfinished Tales last night. So weird

Putting the Silmarrion together into a quality unified work is arguably one of the greatest editorial works ever

NO question! Crazy enough, I started re-reading it yesterday. No clue why, I just missed it.
RIP Christopher

I'm pretty sure Christopher Tolkien is the one who openly hated the LOTR movies.

i burned through the hobbit & LOTR in like 2 weeks in middle school but never got past the first chapter of this.
maybe i should give it another go as a middle age man now

He hated the movies but they already sold out to Amazon so I guess he didn't hate Hollywood that much.

Same here. Maybe I'm not nerdy enough. I have heard others say it is unreadable as well.

It reads (and is intended to be) more like the Bible than an actual novel. Tolkien created an entire mythology, not just a story.

I feel like a huge nerd, because it's my favorite bit of work by Tolkien. I've also have heard others find it hard to read. I don't know what it is about it though, I love reading it and re-read it every couple of years.

At the very least, read the last two sections of the Silmarillion; It covers the fall of Numenor and the War of the Ring.
