Interesting genealogy story on "wop". In the early 1900's there was a severe economic downturn in Italy resulting in large numbers of Italians flooding into this country. Many came into Ellis Island without any documentation. The immigration department created forms for these people and stamped the forms W.O.P. which was Without Papers. Don't know if true, but I turned this up in some of my genealogy research.

Italian here. The fact that he doesn’t understand the analogy makes him even more of a Fredo

I have been friends with an Italian for many years. When we were kids some other friends would call him Dego or Wop and that would really piss him off.. I remember I said Dego purposely under my breath and I laughed after but he didn't.. I never said it again.

That is a common but apocryphal story re the origin of wop.
It’s from the word guappo, which refers to a flamboyant southern Italian criminal, so essentially a mafioso type.

My step dads CB handle was “the Dago” so it can’t be that bad.

I hate to hear the Fredo reference is being linked to racism. MSU has been calling OM that for 20 years, capitulating to their “big brother” claims. Always seemed fitting.
