What is the best hike that you've ever done?

How do you lose a 4 yr old on a hiking trip? A kid that young isn’t getting out of my sight
Right?

Were the emergency vehicles near the tracks or near the new facility they built at the end of the road?
Near the tracks/entrance. A fire truck couldn’t get under the tracks for some reason either. Substandard roadway right there? RR Tracks too low? If I hadn’t shown up and left when I did I likely would have been blocked in there for hours.
Anyway, I didn’t know the story until later that day. I thought about asking someone there, but I kind of know my place in a situation like that…And this isn’t the first time I’ve seen massed Law enforcement along Frenchtown road and then never hear anything about it. So this was a terrible thing to find out.

Happens all the time around here, no kids die.
That doesn't answer the question though. I'm inclined to think that most 4-year-olds would not enjoy hiking in freezing temperatures (especially in the south where kids don't get exposed to the cold very much). This story seems quite strange for this area and the timing of it all.

We were on the way to Christmas Eve with family half a mile from the entrance of that new facility. Would not be surprises if EMS couldn't squeeze through. Railroad track support beam that split the road had the lane to the facility shallow/underwater and it would be quite the squeeze by width, not necessarily height.
We accidentally showed up to the park around 1pm because I got distracted and missed the turn into the house. We drove a midsized sedan thru and even that felt uncomfortable going through, especially down the abysmal Frenchtown Road.
FWIW, we saw some dude in a dark truck running into the back of it and I found it out that someone was out there in this weather on Christmas Eve, and it feels worse thinking that something malicious could've occurred within feet of us.

Isabel said she thinks the problems she’s had with Jacob may reveal the answer to what exactly happened to her son on Christmas Eve.
Jacob and Isabel were married about five years before separating 17 months ago. The couple finalized their divorce a few months back. Isabel said she had to file a protective order against Jacob because he was abusive towards her.
“There was a lot of violence when we were together, which is why we separated,” Isabel said in an interview through a translator.

Sure woman. Just send your kid back over to stay with the guy after the kid has already been beaten before.

the penalty should be tossing this guy into a lake in Minnesota in January.

That is Alaska. Literally no one here owns any cold weather gear. It was in the 70s the week before and will be this weekend also. This is beyond abnormally cold weather for the area. People are not conditioned to it at all.

Fairly normal in certain regions. What isn't normal is not having your eagle eyes on the kid.

Since she apparently doesn't speak English, I'm wondering if her legal status may have had something to do with her inability to maintain custody.

The explanation that he was told was given by the father was that he tripped and fell and when he got up the kid was gone. Maybe there's more to it than that, but that doesn't add up at all on its own.
Wow....

There are a lot of wife beaters/child abusers/child molesters that look normal.

Not a fair assessment. If there is a court order giving the father time with this child she has to follow it or she can be held in contempt of court.
I don't know what legal proceedings they may have going on between them but until one of the parents has been found to be unsuitable by the court each parent has just as much rights to that child as the other. She may have had no choice.
