The poor child never arrived at the trails alive. Obviously a pathetic attempt to cover up a murder. Lord make sure this young boy gets special treatment. RIP
Not according to Unfiltered with Kiran
"He was rescued out of the Amite River around 3:40pm on Christmas Eve, nearly an hour after he was reported missing by his father. He was rushed to a hospital but died shortly before midnight."

Damn, I guess nobody posting in this thread gets out of LA. The weather part doesn’t bother me. But I agree the circumstances are pretty thin. They’ll be able to tell if he was on phone and the child wandered off during call.

I hike there often. The railroad trail that goes to the river is very open and it would be very hard to lose somebody on that one. The other trails can be somewhat thick as far as the woods go. There are a few places to access the river. During the summer time I could see this happening possibly however after the hurricane and now during the winter it can be very open. It's unfortunate what happened.

Ten degree water is ice.

I was out there when this took place. No one else was there when I started my hike, but when I got back there were 20+ emergency vehicles and LEO at the trailhead. Didn’t hear sirens or anything, but figured it was a rescue situation because they were heading down the gravel service road. There was another car there at that point as well so it must have taken place during my hike. Pretty sad situation.
I bring my 2 boys out there to hike sometimes and I simply can’t imagine how you let a 4 year old wander away. Not even sure how that’s possible. I can only imagine if they slipped down the bank into the Amite river and was swept away. But even in that case I would dive in after them. Just Baffling.

Did he drown at the river under the railroad bridge?

All sorts of fricked up parenting here... but...
That's not how it works, baw. Even saltwater is frozen at 10°.

Correct but not instantaneously

If the air temp is 20 the water isn’t going to be 10.

Are children on the autism spectrum attracted to water and the sound of running water? I've read that but is it true for some of them?

About how far to river?
I'd say about 400-500 yards in either direction at the tracks.

What a tragedy.
From the dad’s perspective: 1) he got away with murder or 2) he didn’t do it, feels like shite, and everyone thinks he killed the boy.

In cold water drownings, a person is not considered dead until they are warm and dead. In children especially, the cold water temp makes resuscitation more possible after drowning. The pronouncement of death more than likely happened after the child was warmed, and still did not respond to resuscitation efforts.

Were the emergency vehicles near the tracks or near the new facility they built at the end of the road?

I have a family member that works for Central Fire, although he wasn't one of the responders to this incident. The explanation that he was told was given by the father was that he tripped and fell and when he got up the kid was gone. Maybe there's more to it than that, but that doesn't add up at all on its own.

Damn, did he get knocked out by the fall? How was he down long enough that the kid disappeared?

Lean this way, the entire story smells.
I've taken 3 year old up mountains, he's not being truthful about something here..
