The headline reads, “Child found”. That sounds like a happy story.
Instead it’s a 4 year old child dies because of a shitty father story.
Bait and switch. So frick OP.

I've ran those trails.
Pretty well marked and cleared out.
Depending on water level, the river is kind of far from trails. Most spots you have to venture off trail and then over some rough terrain to get to the river.
I find it very hard to believe kid just wandered into the river.

Yeah something definitely doesn’t add up. Especially if it was just the dad and the son, you don’t “lose” a four year old unless there is some very serious negligence going on. It’s not like you just look away for ten seconds and he’s gone. There seems like it would have to be minutes (or more) to allow a child like that to go away. And then most likely you’d hear him walking anyway.
Interested to see what happens with this and to the dad once an investigation takes place. Sad story.

Not making excuses for the father but a 4 yr old can disappear pretty quick if chasing a lizard or butterfly etc through some woods.
That being said, always keep them in sight.
Agreed, whole thing is suspect. Terrible amount of negligence or foul play. How do you wait an hour to call for help. I'm freaking out after 10 min

Not on those trails.
Go off trails and there are rocks, huge ruts etc.
Most spots huge dropoff to river level.
This isn't like a paved trail in a city park.

You’re right about the trails being rough terrain once you get off trail, but there is also a path that is mostly limestone which parallels the RR tracks that heads straight to the river. Maybe they were there? Either way, this is a messed up story.

he doesn't notice the kid wondering off.
If dad don’t do it himself, he was probably on drugs

About how far to river?
I've got some time out there.
Not like I grew up out there though.

I have a 5 year old son. We stayed in this weekend due to cold.
No way I let him get out of my sight at a park, let alone a nature trail
If not malicious intent, then willing to bet parent was on their phone and not watching the kid then looked up and noticed they were gone.

I wonder sometimes when I see stories like these are special needs kids and if there's some ancient tendency for eugenics going on here.
Reason: Almost everyone I know with a special needs kid is a fricking amazing person that sacrifices so much yet thrives anyway. I used to always think that maybe having a family member with such conditions brings out the best of us but maybe its also skewed because lesser people get rid of these family members. I dunno, I've started drinking too early in the day.

You know, I’d try to find an appropriate Casey Anthony gif, but it’s Christmas.

Don't autistic kids have an attraction to water?

also why was a 4 year old on a hiking trip in freezing temps?
No good reason.
Something is way off about this story.

The poor child never arrived at the trails alive. Obviously a pathetic attempt to cover up a murder. Lord make sure this young boy gets special treatment. RIP

I was thinking of taking my son out this weekend but said no thanks at 20°

Pulled it up on Maps, it’s roughly 3400 feet from parking lot to river.
