re: Daughter’s alcoholism and mental illness.

I have been there. Remember you cannot make it easy to make bad choices. If you protect him from her choices, she has no reason to change.
You cannot love her well, you did not cause this you cannot fix it. My husband was a recovering alcoholic for 40 years until his death. He was sober 40 years. ALANON and AA worked for us.
You and you family are in my thoughts.

Quilters love those things. It's a simple machine, nearly indestructable, easily repaired and maintained. At 450 believe it or not, a quilter somewhere is posting about the steal of a deal she got.

re: What are the OT's thought on the EMS/BRFD merger?

Exactly just what is EMS certified? Just what does that mean? Who issues this EMS certification?
Is this a First Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, or Paramedic? All three with different levels of training and skillsets. I seriously doubt every Firefighter is a Nationally Registered Paramedic or even a Emergency Medical Technician for that matter

Funny story. True fact.
When EMS started, the Department, to avoid a duplication of services, shared a mechanic shop. EMS hired two new mechanics from the Fire department, bought equipment and tools. Yeah, saving money right? If the EMS mechanics were not working on EMS units, they could work on fire trucks, but EMS units had priority. Great deal for BRFD right? New tools, equipment and two mechanics EMS is paying for. Then the union got involved, after Firefighters complained about the EMS mechanics getting pulled off fire trucks to work on EMS units. New contract, new fire chief and boom, BRFD mechanics could no longer work on EMS units. The two BRFD mechanics that were hired for EMS, out of a job. EMS had to start using the Central garage with the DPW units.
This is what will happen if EMS goes under the BRFD. New Fire Chief, new union contract and EMS will once again bear the brunt of whims of people who have no clue about prehospital care. There is nothing to protect EMS budgets in training, equipment, or personnel. There is a huge Nationwide shortage of Paramedics and EMTS. How in the world are we gojng to attract new employees if there is no chance of any advancement? They have no voice as all rank must be a firefighter. They have no protection no say. The union and Fire Chief have all the power and EMS is a stepchild generating revenue. If you do not think every dime will be squeezed out of EMS to benefit the BRFD, I have some swamp land to sell.
All BRFD sees is the EMS milage and revenue generated, and getting rid of Firefighters having to respond to medical calls.

It is another attempt at a money grab by the BRFD. Since day one, they have been trying to get their hands on EMS money.
This is not a merger, it is a hostile take over.
BRFD and EMS are two completely different skillsets and training. In EBRP we have a duel response system, BRFD is dispatched with EMS on some calls as there is a lot more Fire Stations than EMS units. They begin treatment and then turnover patient care to EMS, who will treat and transport. A citizen in EBRP is not billed for the treatment and transport. The patients insurance is billed and any revenue collected is considered payment in full. This revenue is what the BRFD has had their eye on for years.
Fire Department and EMS mergers typically result in a huge decrease in clinical treatment standards. The Gold Standard for EMS departments providing quality is a separate free Department of EMS. When EMS was formed 40+ years ago this BRFD|EMS option was extensively studied and ultimately discarded.
This particular merger is especially troublesome as right now all rank in the Fire Department must be Firefighters. This puts firefighters, with very little to no advanced life support skills supervising EMS paramedics. EMS paramedics who want to advance are shut out from promotions by not being trained firefighters. How many Paramedics will come to work for a service where the door for advancement is slammed in their face? Other troublesome issues is how is a Department that operates within the city limits provide care to the parish outside the city limits? A big complaint voiced to the FD Union is medical calls, a huge amount Firefighters do not want to respond to medical calls, this issue comes up again and again during contract negotiation. Is this who you want running your EMS system?
The present Chief very recently admitted is unknown how much or if any money would be saved. There is no plan announced to merge the departments, just we are merging.
the Department of EMS is a nationally recognized EMS Service, winning the #1 EMS Department in the Nation TWICE! This is a huge achievement.

Because Acadian can collect transport fees from the Parish. Money in the bank.
I sure as hell did. I sent both of my daughters back every year. 4th grade til 12th grade. I even had the letter and address label saved on my computer. Update and print every summer.

KG's on Florida Blvd in Baton Rouge. He is in the same shopping center as Hi Nabor. He is extremely talented, and very reasonable. All repairs are done in house, at his bench. Great guy!
Like the RealBleeda diamond necklace wasn't a big enough hint.

Not so fast, for a "sold out" game there is a ton of empty seats visible on the game feed.
I take all sold out claims with a huge grain of salt.

That ice machine that circulates ice water through a pad on your shoulder is the secret. If your insurance will not cover it, pay out of pocket. It is worth every penny plus. Pro tip with that. Freeze water bottles and use that instead of ice cubes. I had 8 bottles I just rotated in and out. I did my PT like it was my job, that ice pad felt amazing on my shoulder when I got home.
