This is so wrong.

QA prevents shite product from leaving. Refineries cannot release shite product that might damage vehicles. Also, help provide process engineers data to operate optimally.

As far as safety. There's a reason the vast majority of refinery baws etc have all fingers etc. In old days guys hurt all the time. There's a reason it's rare nowadays.

If anything a decent safety guy will at least ensure the compliance of the administrative and engineering controls in place

He's probably thinking of a QC guy. A lot of people use QA and QC as if they're the same but they're not.

A CDO makes sure a company doesnt hire to many white people, its problematic otherwise.

They might not like the safety man or QA guy because they enforce standards but they are worlds and above more important than any “diversity officer”

The only diversity in a high risk setting should be competent and incompetent and the incompetent shouldn’t be hired

I work for a fortune 10 company and we have guidelines we have to follow when hiring people

If my team gets too white I’m told I have to hire a minority. I’ve been forced to hire dumbasses in the past over very qualified candidates.

If he's operating on your heart, he's probably the most qualified, competent, and careful. And there's a good chance he's brown, but Indian brown, not urban.

Not too many companies in the business of making money will risk that just for PR points. My company has a director of diversity and inclusion, they do a ton of work/events in that area, yet the executives are a who's who of straight white dudes, albeit a lot of Jewish guys. Maybe it's different when you're publicly traded? I don't know and don't care.

Oh I’ve got no issues with a working man no matter his stripe or creed as long as he knows what he’s doing. I’ve been the only cracker in the crew more than once. Don’t bother me a bit and I’ve learned a lot from skilled craftsmen of every hue.


But if a hiring process dictates that a quota of some sort must be met that isn’t based on competence, it’s a shitty process, especially when you are dealing with stuff that can get men hurt or killed. No diversity quota is worth men not going home.

I retired from a major airfreight company based in Memphis after 35 years there. They have a CDO. ALL the correct boxes are checked and all forms of new speak is generated as policy now. The PC bromides are high comedy.

I'm just saying I've never come across this. Granted, I've only worked for 3 companies over the last 12ish years, and was only involved in hiring at 1. It just seems more of a meme than reality to me. Kinda like the gender pay gap.
