Houston-based Cheniere Energy is laying the groundwork for another expansion at its Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Cameron Parish that will push its annual liquefied natural gas export capacity to more than 54 million metric tons annually.

Cheniere said Thursday it has begun the prefiling process with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to build three new liquefaction trains at Sabine Pass LNG. Liquefaction trains are the vessels that supercool natural gas into a liquid so it can be shipped.

The expansion will also include a new re-liquefaction unit and two LNG storage tanks. Cheniere has hired Bechtel Energy to complete a front-end engineering and design, or FEED, study for the project.

Assuming all goes well with the regulatory approval process, company officials hope construction will start by late 2025 with full operations in 2032, according to FERC filings. Cheniere has not made a final investment decision on the expansion, and a company spokesman said cost estimates are not firm because the project is still in development.

The expansion would continue an upward trajectory for Sabine Pass LNG, which first began operations in 2016 and opened its sixth liquefaction train in early 2022. The facility has also completed construction of its third boat dock last year.

Tammie's Diner in Sabine Pass is going to be tripping over all the cash....

....assuming they didn't get washed away by those hurricanes over the last 10 years.

ETA: Actually this is on the other side of the river from what I was thinking.

This is a huge expansion for cheniere. They know the future of LNG is huge

It’s not the only expansion either. There’s a huge development going on down river from New Orleans in plaquemines parish. Not sure who owns it. If anyone gets a chance to go down there, it’s worth a trip just to see how massive it is.

Venture Global. Same company building Calcasieu Pass LNG in Cameron Parish.

Because the Bucket Brigade, Louisiana Budget Project and Floodlight News tell them they should be.

Well, that's just dumb. LNG is a good clean and safe industry that supplies a lot of jobs and tax revenue to this state.

And they follow marching orders from left wing money groups. LNG was bad before the war in Ukraine, now it’s tolerable. Watch them pivot on message.

I was told it’s primarily due to the gigantic amount of ‘Sterile’ water being dumped back into the environment by cooling systems.

People are stupid.

I can’t speak to the Sabine, but it’s been true for quite a while that newer plants along the lower Mississippi River discharge cleaner water to the river than they take out of the river. This would be especially true for facilities like LNG plants that have a very small amount of process wastewater (most wastewater comes from boilers and cooling tower blowdowns as you said).

If people are really saying that’s a bad thing they are, quite frankly, idiots who have no idea what they’re talking about.

I think the issue isn’t the cleanliness of the water, but the temperature. “Environmentalists” will find any excuse to oppose any industry that is efficient and necessary to maintain human civilization. Enviros are nothing more than pawns for the Chinese communists who want heavy industry outsourced to them and the globalist authoritarians who seek to destroy the middle class and destroy personal property to make us all bug-eating serfs.

Looking at that area in a satellite photo there are large facilities on the Louisiana and Texas side. Is the Texas facility also LNG?

Yes, the one on the Texas side is Golden Pass LNG.
