Charlottesville, Virginia, will no longer celebrate Thomas Jefferson’s birthday as an official city holiday and instead will observe a day recognizing the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans.
The city council voted Monday night to scrap the decades-old April 13 holiday honoring the slave-holding president and Founding Father. Charlottesville will now mark Liberation and Freedom Day on March 3, the day U.S. Army forces arrived in the city in 1865.

The legacy of Jefferson, the nation’s third president, author of the Declaration of Independence and founder of the University of Virginia, has been a component of that ongoing debate.

I’ve never heard of a Thomas Jefferson celebration.

Good for them. They should try to burn down Monticello while they're at it.

"We just want to take down the statues"

Call it whatever you want, just don’t take away my day off.

I am sure this is so tearing him up inside and out. It’s as if many want history to be wiped away.
Guess we should eliminate the holocaust and slavery from text books and forget they ever existed? So strange to think like that.

Not triggered, not happy to see history being slowly dismantled. If you don’t think this affects you via the cultural climate, hang on.

Well, Thomas Jefferson only founded the University of Virginia, built Monticello, which is all Charlottesville. That's why he's important to that city.
But, I guess the city felt the need to instead celebrate something that had zero to do with anyone living in that town now.

I can understand taking down Confederate statues, as they turned against the US, therefore were our adversary, so I don't think they should be commemorated in the US as a result...
but this?? what the actual frick?

I'll give it 40 years before Washington D.C. is renamed. The State of Washington will be renamed to King within 20. Hopefully I'll be retired to Australia by then.

I watched a Ken Burns Doc on old Tom, seems like he had a bunch of mulatto childrens running around his plantation.
His wife died young and he was getting it in with his house girl
He owned her so she couldn't say no

You won’t hear of this one again, either. I’m not going to explain why Charlottesville, VA, would be celebrating Jefferson.

Sounds like a waste of city council time that could have been used to improve the function of the city

I’m short order, all of American history before 1965 will be attacked and maligned.
They are not gonna stop at 1865.
Take it to the bank.

Charlottesville City Council members:
It should come as no surprise that those people want to erase and destroy any semblance of white history or culture. The one white male at the bottom is a voting rights attorney and lecturer at Virginia (so a far left cuck).

Never knew anyone celebrated Thomas Jefferson's birthday, I would imagine a lot of people didn't either.. So I am sure that one city that does and will no longer do so will not have that big of an impact on the culture of this country.
Just because something is taken away or there isn't something out representing it doesn't change the fact that it is part of history.
Like I said, I don't let it work me up.
