I am surprised by this. I was sure it was going to be 40-50% black, which would explain the politics there. But, no, blacks make up 20% and yet somehow the 70% white majority just bows down to their asinine demands.

I watched a Ken Burns Doc on old Tom, seems like he had a bunch of mulatto childrens running around his plantation. His wife died young and he was getting it in with his house girl

Except he wasn't. Genetics showed that the black family that made the claim didn't descend from any Jeffersons. Another black family did come from the Jeffersons, but not from the President, from a brother of his or from his brother's children.

But who lets science get in the way of an assault on history?

I visited Monticello last month. It was presented as fact due to "oral tradition"

So I am sure that one city that does and will no longer do so will not have that big of an impact on the culture of this country.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

- George Orwell, 1984

Seems this is where people are intent on going with this nonsense.

Why stop there? Why not remove all statues of Jefferson and take any mention of Monticello and UVA (which he founded) from all city literature, maps and road signs? Why not dig his old arse up and throw him in the river?

I'm sure they're hard at work at this right now.

Let's pretend he never existed, or short of that just ignore all of his great works simply because he lived in a time when people owned slaves.

Why do people think removing statues and not celebrating a birthday, is somehow changing history? That's one of the dumbest arguments consistently made in these threads.

No one celebrates Hitler's birthday, yet he remains a prominent historic figure. You don't have to erect statues or take a day off work to understand history.

I agree. Which is why removing statues and changing holidays is fricking stupid.

Especially of the founder of your city and biggest employer.

I think it is silly to worry about for both those that want to remove the statues/celebrations and those they get mad about it.

Ya, we should probably just tear down all monuments and cancel all holidays.
