quote:

A traveler who recently flew from Europe to the United States, known only as SCM2323, decided to download the popular show and watch it during the transatlantic flight.

“Two days ago, I was on a long-haul flight in an aisle seat,” SCM2323 posted in the subReddit AITA, short for “Am I The A**hole“, where users share stories and other readers vote on their behavior. “Since I haven’t seen ‘Games of Thrones’ yet, I was looking forward to binge watch[ing] the first season.”

“An hour or two into watching, the woman two rows behind me [tapped] on my shoulder and told me that I need to turn it off immediately. A little bit confused, I asked why. She told me that her young son could see the show playing on my tablet, and [that the show is] totally not suited for such young children because of the sex and violence … While I agree with that, I told her that I’m not going to turn it off. She then basically told me that I am an a-hole for not considering other people around me. Is she right?”

What does the OT think about this scenario?

He basically admits he is an a-hole. Season 1 GOT is half porn, so she has a point.

It’s a long flight. Help her find someone to switch seats with her and her son.

I had to turn off Spring Breakers on an airplane. It made me too uncomfortable knowing kids were around. If something like that doesn’t make you uncomfortable there is something wrong with you.

I watch movies on my tablet on flights often and sometimes the movies contain nudity. I cover the screen and/or fast forward. I try and be mindful of the folks around me.

Common courtsey tells you not to watch R movies in front of kids without the parent's permission.

He's probably in the wrong. I can't see anyone looking at a Penthouse on a plane, so the same goes for shows with gratuitous nudity.

I fly a lot. And download movies/shows to watch. If it’s something sexual in a scene, I skip ahead.. since I’m not missing dialogue.

If it’s violence, I don’t worry about it. Little Johnny would have to look up from decapitating zombies or shooting an enemy in the head to notice.

Or, ya know, as a parent of a kid on a long flight, bring your own tablet to entertain your kid so he isn’t nosing around other people’s entertainment.

Both are a-holes. The guy should have oriented his screen so the kid couldn't see. The mother shouldn't demand anything, she should ask.
