I know this may be insignificant, but for me it was 2Pac. I remember being in high school and coming home to find out he had died. Everyone was just getting introduced to 2Pac with California Love playing everywhere.

This was a big one. It was just a shock considering it was also NASCARs mainstream coming out party and to have that end the day.

Trevor Strnad as well for me. Dimebag too.

Roger Ebert. I used to watch his show and would go to the computer lab in HS —back in the 90s—every Friday morning to read his newest reviews. I think that was the first web address I had memorized. I didn’t always agree with him but he definitely taught me how to watch movies. When he died, I think in 2014, I felt—and still do—a legitimate loss that I’d no longer get to watch a movie and then go read his opinion on it. I get pretty excited when I watch an older movie for the first time to go read his review of it.

Also Rush Limbaugh, knew it was coming but it hit at such a rough time in the country, nothing seemed stable anymore and I couldn’t imagine not hearing his take on things. He’s the only person who ever died that I didn’t know personally that moved me to tears. I actually wept on my couch for about 5-10 minutes.

Was also sad about Johnny Cash, but that seemed timely, he went to be with June.

Robin Williams. Goes to show that while someone can set the world on fire with his outward appearance and personality, he can be struggling internally so greatly and nobody would ever be able to tell.

My high school physics teacher was his brother.

Michael Jackson was a gut punch.
By far the hardest hit celebrity death for me.

Kobe, James gandolfini and now vin scully.

Steve Irwin as well. Not necessarily because I watched his show or was a fan, but he seemed like a truly nice and genuine guy that loved what he did.
