Isn't she the one that had to leave the stage during her own show to go take a shite?

She must not be aware that the rise of Motown began when they exposed the music to white audiences.

How would that be received if Taylor Swift came out and said I'm not making music for black people, I'm speaking from a white woman's perspective? The media would be in a total uproar!

if she said "I'm not making music for white people. I'm making music for everyone" i dont think the Taylor Swift crowd would be mad.
Why do people on this site think music should be directed at a race of people, rather than just created for whoever wants to enjoy it?
but why read articles/watch interviews when we can crop quotes to be outraged about?

This is probably the biggest criticism I’ve received, and it is such a critical conversation when it comes to black artists,” the singer said. “When black people see a lot of white people in the audience, they think, ‘Well, this isn’t for me. This is for them.’ The thing is, when a black artist reaches a certain level of popularity, it’s going to be a predominantly white crowd.”

Your whiteknighting for Lizzo has given this thread enough legs to make it 9 pages, give it up.

She probably deserves a lotta hate. This is just dumb though and shows how dumb the average American is when using social media.
Read a headline with a quote clipped to elicit a reaction and circlejerk over it with people that have news feeds with the same algorithm.
Ignore/dont look for any more information because the headline suits your confirmation bias.

I’m going to laugh my lily white arse off when she has the big one on stage.

all that being said, as always, if a country singer from bumfrick Georgia said "my music isnt for black people" he would be excoriated and, as usual, black people are given a pass and an obvious double standard.
I think you figured it out, but you have to get a little deeper into context here.
If a white country singer put out music and the audience at his shows was almost entirely black fans, and white people criticized him for making music for black people, he might respond to his critics by saying, “I don’t make music for black people. I make music from my own experience. When you reach a certain level of fame, black people come to my shows.”
That would be a similar context to the statement in this case.

She’s in sumo territory. Wonder if she considers a crossover?

It's literally just a numbers game since white people far outnumber black people in population.
But I bet in Nola she would get a different crowd than in, say, Cincinnati

The intelligent singer and the business woman added, “I am not making music for white people. I am a black woman. I am making music from my black experience.”
What a sad comment. And sorry lady, white people gobbling up your music like you at the hotel breakfast is the primary factor in your success.

How anyone regardless of race can listen to her music is beyond me.
I can’t name a single one of her “songs”. She becoming/is worse than that Megan thee Stallion. Atrocious
She’s not very smart either. For making a statement like that.
