Despite the FACT that that was the reason for all of this stupidity, it stopped being the reason pushed by idiots who wanted to continue or still want to continue the shutdown.

Anyone who has pushed to continue the shutdown at any time over the past 4 weeks, at least, no longer saw that as the reason

Yea, and I shouldve clarified that my post wasn't really a commentary on the current situation or justification for staying closed. More of a comment on fatality rate not being relevant to any of the actions that have been taken so far. So using it to downplay the situation is sortof changing the narrative.

Italy’s 10% came from one region while tests were so limited that they were only checking those with exact symptoms in the vulnerable range. This was pointed out at the time by a few here but those posts were either ignored or downvoted into oblivion.

My biggest takeaway from this shite is that propaganda works because there are too many naive dumbasses in the world

People on this board were providing a lot of data that showed it was 1%-2% at most, even without considering all the asymptomatic people who were never tested, relatively early on during this whole thing. The main way fatality was brought up was stuff like "10x more deadly than flu" when it was used to fearmonger.

Well, yeah, there are reasons for that high number. But that was what was out and being reported. My point still stands.

I mean, yeah, most definitely. You saw the perfect storm of fear being fed by the media causing more fear, social media driving more fear and driving the actual media to promote more fear, which led to governments imposing lock downs.

The news media driving for clicks and eyes during this, and over the last few years, is in direct competition/reaction to social media and using clickbait tactics even on broadcasts. Everything is now "breaking news" when it's reported.

Reddit “shut down for 6 more months”
shite, that's being nice. A lot of those stupid frickers don't want to open back up until there's a vaccine for it.

They say the government can just pay everyone to sit at home until there's a vaccine that makes it "safe enough" to go out.

Idiots have no clue. I tried bringing up what printing excess money does to an economy and the idiots just couldn't understand. And nevermind the fact that people will continue to lose their jobs already, and even more so if we stayed shut down. They're truly a l naive and stupid group of people.

My point was with awareness people would have been more strict on that behavior which would have been sufficient.

I agree but at the time we didn't realize the what demographics it affected the most....we always knew the elderly are always at risk, thats for any virus......but no one knew that people over 60 or people with underlying medical issues where most at risk...we also didnt know what those underlying medical issues were and we also didn't know that black people, given their dense living arrangements and poor health were going to be hot spots

We didnt know how fast this virus spread, or how it was spread....they didnt know how to contain it.

The CDC said that mask useless....

Now people are getting arrested for not wearing one....

All these things we didnt know was because China lied and hid the truth...

Did the media overreact? Of course they did..that's how they keep the lights on

This whole shite show was an overreaction.....and has going on far too long...

However, I dont agree with shutting down for 10 weeks....we should have been open back up over a month ago when they finally got a handle on who, what when and where was at the most risk.

Yes we did. The biggest takeaway from Italy’s number was that the average age of death was 81.

Why is this a point when it’s true for every novel virus? Give me what was truly “special” about covid.

We had SK and closed systems on cruises that gave us really good data. It was ignored.

An administration that didn't take the threat seriously and spent over a month downplaying it.

True. SK vigorously tested, traced, and isolated. Something we didn't do, which is a big reason why we're still partially shutdown in parts of the country while SK has been mostly back to normal for some time.

This is where people decide to forget that the concern was about the spread and infection rate overwhelming hospitals and increasing the mortality rate beyond what it normally would be.

Then why are we still closed? That fear has completely passed
