So...there have been more deaths from flu since the end of October (now an estimated 24,000) than there has been from COVID-19 over the last 5 weeks (13,000). With the current pace, Coronavirus deaths should surpass flu deaths within the next 7-10 days.

Remember, Flu season runs October to May...so we are on the tail end of Flu season, and within the first 6 weeks of coronavirus.

You would think that all of the social distancing, hand washing, mask wearing etc we are doing for the Coronavirus that we would
also see a decrease in the incidence of flu cases relative to years past, but there doesn't seem to be. Which you could argue if we are in actuality flattening the covid 19 curve.

There are multiple reports of significant decreases in flu cases.

San Diego Tribune

quote:

The report shows a precipitous drop in the number of flu cases reported to the county health department last week, and similar sudden effects were felt last week at Rady Children’s Hospital for all respiratory viruses, not just the flu.

Last week, a total of 90 confirmed flu cases were reported countywide, an 84 percent decrease in the previous week’s total of 583 cases, and a 71 percent decrease when compared to the prior three-year average of 310 cases observed in the fourth week of March.

The Johns Hopkins map lists world deaths at 70,798 and US deaths at 10,335. Where are you getting your drastically lower numbers?

It's an old post made mockingly by a guy who has since proven to be way off in his estimations.

Where are you getting the 9000 total death count for the global death count?????

Every thing I have seen has been much higher, hell www.worldometer.com has the US death count exceeding 9000.

find it hilarious though that you believe those numbers from the CDC (which are based on estimation and projection), but don’t want to believe the CDC when they say if nothing is done, it will be between 200k-1.7kk US dead.

But wouldn’t one number be reporting past events and one number predicting the future? Regardless of the organization, I can understand putting more trust in one set of numbers and not the other.

Good to know.

Was just having a cursory look at the graphs from the cdc from the OP link which don't seem as favorable as the newstory you posted. Perhaps it's reduced the severity for this year but on the whole looks about the same as any other year outside of 2017/18 which was an outlier.

How long is flu season? Doesnt it start in October? If so, that makes about 5 full months. Wasnt the first US case reported sometime in February? In either case, we are atleast a month in to this Corona thing, with a little over 100 deaths.

I certainly respect medical professionals opinions on this. After all, they know a lot more than me on this issue. I just dont see the corona reaching 22,000 deaths in 5 months here. Sorry

I will admit when I am wrong. And I was totally off base here. It hasn't even been a month since I made this post, and we are already at half that number.

yeah. and imagine if you and all the people like you back then and who still exist now started taking this thing seriously earlier. exposed themselves to less people. lessened the spread.

it's almost like all this denialism has a cost and that cost is human life.

Flu + Pneumonia = reported Flu deaths

I wish the United States would separate the two like many countries to eliminate this BS.
