For the first time since the week ending February 29, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released its Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report, which shows that the death toll from the seasonal flu has reached 22,000, including 144 children.

The CDC website notes the tardiness of the report.

Does anyone think we will have 22,000 corona related deaths?
Truly interested in seeing what everyone thinks.

I think it’s a possibility.

At this point, we are trying to limit the number of infected and keep it below that

Are we to include small businesses that die?

Due to the precautions being taken, I don’t think we will have 22,000 corona deaths.

No, but if we did the panic would far outweigh a late release from cdc about the flu.

No.

But it is b/c of proactively enforced social distancing.

I find it hilarious though that you believe those numbers from the CDC (which are based on estimation and projection), but don’t want to believe the CDC when they say if nothing is done, it will be between 200k-1.7kk US dead.

CDC: Only the experts when I like what they say

I think you’re missing the point.

According to actual experts, there is a very good change we can far exceed that. I hope they are being overly cautious, but I'll listen to Dr. Facui over the posters on TD.

Just a reminder that this isn't just about the death total. It's about over-stressing our hospitals and more importantly the ICU's to the point that they can't care for people with everyday illnesses and conditions resulting in more damage than what teh virus would do on it's own.

Lol it’s only a possibility if every nursing home in the country gets it.

The current global death count is just under 9,000.

You honestly think the US possibly could have double that number?

I’ve seen scientists predict almost ten times that if we do nothing.

That’s really not true. There are hundreds of thousands of fat, unhealthy smokers in this country.

They are fricking gone if they get it. Might be a blessing.

22,000 deaths is worst than 116 deaths but you still will have idiots who post here that refuse to admit that

FLU >>>>>>>> Coronavirus.

Current rates would have to continue past April 18th for this to cross 22,000 deaths.

I was just asking for peoples thoughts. Was in no way downplaying Covid 19. My wife is being treated for metastatic breast cancer with mets to the lungs as I type so I'm even more concerned than most about this f ing virus.

You would think this number kills the storyline that covid has been here for months killing patients disguised as the flu.
