Not as trashy as the camouflage F-350 stretch limousine though!

frickers get everything mailed direct now. Did not know this. I was the ONLY person to show up with a wedding gift in hand at a reception recently. 'Hey, where's the gift table?'

Nope. Not yet. Got close twice, once with the high school sweetheart and again with this last long time girlfriend but I pretty much self-sabatoged both of them.

Something's broken inside me, I guess.

I’ll never understand what makes people feel entitled to free alcohol at these events.

I was waiting for this post, just something about Catholics and getting drunk at the Wedding. One of the biggest drunks I was ever involved in was I was groomsmen to a friend of mine in Missouri. Drank champagne in the Limo on the way to the church, and it was off to the races from there. Reception was at the church. Them catholics could lay it down!

So if you were a guest...you would rather there be NO alcohol available whatsoever at the reception instead of having to pay for it?

If you cant afford to get your guests intoxicated, you have no business getting married. People really need to get their priorities in order. Is that certificate really that important if you cant afford a few flats of natty and a bag of ice?

Never been to a sit down dinner wedding ever. And I've been to some weddings of realativey well off people. Just not common where I'm from.

I’d never been to a buffet wedding until I moving to Louisiana. I find it weird to be at something that is meant to feel as formal and carry plates of food around, search out seating, etc.
Most weddings in my experience have some sort of passed apps during the cocktail reception prior to dinner. Many of them are mostly an informal lunch since dinner is later in the evening, but that is different than a buffet as the main event.
But I can never help but think people standing in lines and doing the Golden Corral thing is very weird for a wedding. Feels more like a picnic than a wedding.

It is clear some on this forum expect the family to spend an average of $20 per head to have these same quests show up with a party of 4 and 1 $30 gift.

Weddings are very expensive. I've paid for two of them....so NO, I'm not poor.

I'm happy to pay for someone to have a few drinks to celebrate such an occasion, BUT some folks go to weddings to MOOCH a head full of alcohol, just because it's free.

We didn't have a cash bar, but I personally don't care if cash bar offends some folks. I know that'll get me some down votes, so what.

Some folks (not me) don't drink, and don't want to support someone else getting polluted and acting like an arse. Deal with it.

OP mentioned that the wedding party had a couple of drink tickets each to use at the bar.

Could OP have had drink tickets that came with the invitation and he didn’t realize what they were?

The Baptists must be relaxing a bit. Sure, they still won't pay for your booze, but they don't care if you buy your own!

That's because we in South Louisiana look at the actual ceremony as "the main event" and the reception as a giant party.

The reception isn't meant to be formal, it's meant to be a giant party/celebration. Having a buffet line / stations lends to that. In addition, it's cheaper vs a plated meal, so that means more money for booze!

butch, the worst wedding reception I've experienced had "no bar".

I was a Groomsman. So,I had to be there.

They poured everyone a glass of wine to toast the couple.

They were divorced a year later.

Had to pay for the tux rental.Had to pay for a hotel room in Nashville.

Good times.
