I've seen cash bar for premium stuff but cash bar for everything? WTF I think I'd just leave

I can handle a cash bar. Their weddings, their rules.
What I hate is a wedding where they portion out the food after you’ve waited forever for it and it’s little more than a child’s portion.

OBA- they probably spent the $$ on the Tide Pride fee for football tickets. I would not pin the $100 on the bride if it’s a cash bar.

One thing that I noticed a couple of times in this thread is people proud that they bring booze to all weddings just in case...always be prepared.
As someone who moved to LA for school, I am astounded by the need for alcohol at all social events.
Is the bride and grooms feelings not taken into account? Maybe they don't want their special day being ruined by people getting way too drunk.
Which is also something that I never encountered as so frequently as in LA.
Buzz ok, but the baws who skip right past the good times and head right to blackout town.....
Some trashy alcoholics in LA.

Buddy of mine did some shite like this.
Made his groomsmen pay 250 for suits that they had to return. Thankfully I wasn’t in that party. I skipped the ceremony because I was at the icu visiting another friends father. Show up at the reception and it’s just beer and wine. Drinks were not included. Not a happy camper.
To sum this wedding up. I stayed at the belle.
Funny you should say. Completely different wedding in Zachary I was a part of. I brought my own bottle of gin. The bar ran out. I didn’t.

I’ve been to weddings of all classes. I’ve gone out of town for weddings. I’ve been to weddings without alcohol.
This was a friend’s wedding who, then and still to this day, claims to easily make 6 figures. Next time I see that shithead I’m going to call his cheap arse out.

Plenty of weddings are wine and beer with a cash bar for mixed drinks
That’s pretty much every wedding I’ve ever been to. Most of my friends wives have done it that way because they know us and don’t want us getting too crazy

You are proud that you brought a bottle of booze to a wedding.
Guessing it wasn't BYOB.
You brought a whole bottle.....
A flask ok....a bottle?
I see AA in your future.
The crazy thing to me about LA, was your point of view is not an outlier in LA.
Keep LA trashy

Bringing a bottle in case other people want some is pretty much the opposite of trashy. Sorry you don't have manners in whatever shitty metropolis you live in.

Ok, maybe a bias from my weekend.
Went to a social event in NOLa where people drank too much and ruined the night for the person who the event was in honor of.
What happened to moderation?

It was a open bar. I just had a hunch they would run out. Which they did. I was prepared.

I've probably worked over 100 wedding receptions. While cash bar was very rare, it did happen. THose of ya'll saying you brought in your own liquor, I get it if ya'll did that on the sly but most nice places aren't going to be cool with that. You can't tell your guest BYOB. The venue wants to make that money themselves so they're not going to allow that unless you're at the local VFW hall and have your brother cooking pastalya on the back dock. That's how they make they're money, food and drink (of course, there is a venue fee but the food and drink package is huge part of the profit.)
My last girlfriend came from a very poor family and if we would have gotten married, we would have had to pay for it. I resented that and I guess it doesn't matter because we ended up breaking up, but I was concerned about it. I wouldn't have financed a $20k party so everyone could get loaded on our dime. Unlike the rest of the OT, neither of us had $20 grand to spend on the reception and it would have been a very stupid move to start our marriage that way. I know this is the OT and everyone is married to a supermodel and makes $200k, but for those of us that live in reality, a cash bar isn't that big of a deal. The people that love and care about me would have completely understood our situation and would be fine with buying their own drinks. The rest of would have been invited just because we felt like we had to, and I honestly don't give a flying shite if they were unhappy about having to pay cash for drinks.
All that being said, I'm older and that hypothetical wedding would have been later in life so it's not the same as a 20 year old getting married and the dad throwing a big celebration to see his daughter off. That just wouldn't have happened with her dirt poor arse family.
Oh well, it never came to be so none of that matters anyway...

I went to a wedding where one of the guests wedding present was supplying the liquor for the reception. Then, all the proceeds for the cash bar (outside of the tips for the staff) went as a cash gift for the couple. Everyone knew it and the drinks were really cheap so it went well. Everyone enjoyed it.
