I bought the first 200 domestic beers then it was cash after that.

I've been to one kinda like this. My friend married a hipster type and they had 2 mini kegs of local craft beer that was free and everything else was cash...the exodus when someone said the kegs are tapped was epic and hilarious. Honestly the bar situation was the most normal thing about that circus....will forever be the strangest wedding I ever attended.

Our wedding was beer and wine. But liquor busted the budget. We were young and paid for everything except my wife’s wedding dress (my mother-in-law paid) and our rehearsal dinner (my parents paid). It was either pay for my friends to get shite-faced or spend the money on our honeymoon. Guess which I chose?

But geez... I go to a wedding to watch someone I care about ‘tie the knot’, I don’t critique their frighin’ reception. That’s something only a ‘Housewives of ____’ bitch would do... and apparently some of you baws are bitches.

My best friend had the simplest wedding of us all. Twenty years later, they are still married. Most extravagant wedding I went to was for a girlfriend’s coworker... got divorced after 4 years. All the trappings don’t mean a thing.

yea...but a lot of the time people are flying in and getting hotel rooms to see people tie the knot. After spending hundreds on travel and accommodations...not to mention the fact that they have carved out a weekend for you, do you not think it kinda cheap to not buy these people a drink? To me that is just the right thing to do. I wasn't thrilled about spending $2,000 on someone elses bar tab, but I had people that flew from all around the country, and I only thought it right to take care of them.

I've been to two weddings in my life that were strict Baptist weddings. The first was in Mississippi. Had to rent a text and drive 1.5 hours for this damn wedding that lasted all of 20 minutes. Afterwards, everyone went to a church hall and they had a few sandwhiches, some chips, and that silly fruit punch in a big bowl.

I had a young Mormon woman (returned missionary) and her mom who worked for me for several years. They went to a non-Mormon wedding and avoided the open bar like the plague. But they both thought the punch was the best they'd ever had, and had 4 or 5 tall glasses of it on a hot day in Utah. Turned out to be Margarita's. They went home totally sloshed, and the high-church-official dad didn't speak to them for months.

I've been in two weddings that were beer and wine only. All liquor was cash.

Wedding parties drank for free though.

IDK... That sounds like a Mormon dad question to me.

Maybe by the time they figured it out, they didn't give a shite anymore.

They paid for some, my parents paid for some and we paid for some but we were 30 so we could afford to and didn’t want some big blowout and really felt like we were a bit old to ask them for money. We had about 50 people which was all we wanted.

But my point is it’s easy to sit here and complain about cash bar or they owe me a drink when most saying this have no idea what the total cost of a wedding might be. If your parents pay for it great but not all parents have the funds to do this and simply look at it differently then how much can the guests drink.

My kids will have a good wedding that will be fitting that I am willing to pay for. But I honestly don’t think any will have an open bar or any bar because they watch their funds and I’ve provided them with the supplemental funds to get them through school with no student debt. They respect that and know the value of it as do their friends who wouldn’t expect it either.

I think a lot of people on here should read Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance to get some perspective as to how fortunate some posters are and how unfortunate a large part of this population is.

I just got a text from Paul Allen, he wants to know if there's any pictures in it?

Tell Martini I’m sorry.

I was kidding. I think he’s really mad.

Cash bar issues aside, having the proper receptacle for waste can make the problems of a trashy perception of the reception appear much classier.

I'll do it. You both seem like such reasonable, solid men to me.

I'm sure he knows that and I doubt he is.

people are going to make comments or have thoughts when you don't provide something that's traditionally expected. I don't get why this bothers so many of you.

My wife's parents weren't in a position to pay for ours. My parents said they'd help us. We started planning it and getting everything together. My best man's parents live in a plantation house that we were going to get to use for free.

We added it all up and said frick all that. Went to Vegas and got married instead
