Carolinas House The #1 and Top Transplant Cities
I recently visited North Carolina for a conference and commented to a local about how many out-of-state plates I saw, mainly from the Northeast. He joked that when they were driving down to vacation in Florida, they stopped in North Carolina and fell in love with the place.

All Californians who move to the southern states should be double taxed....for life.

What happens when people move to these places without a plan and find out the reality is these places are, for the most part, economically depressed and/or the cubicle work at mega-corp isn’t what it used to be?

Im moving my family out that way.
I'd bet that a majority of the LSU fans at the North Carolina game yesterday were Louisiana refugees living in the Carolinas now.

Surprised not to see Austin on the list. I’ve lived there since 2007 and can count on one hand the number of people I’ve me that actually grew up there.
I know a lot of people from Austin. They have all moved out into the hill country, or to Fort Worth or Denver. Austin kind of lost its laid back and chill atmosphere a couple decades ago. Maybe longer if you ask older folk.

We've been in Knoxville for a few years now, and half the people in our neighborhood are new transplants from out of state like us. And they've come from all over. I certainly don't regret moving from Louisiana, it's beautiful up here.

Are some of them culturally different? Sure.
It just sort of destroys the identity of the place. Austin and Raleigh come to mind for me. Almost nobody is from there.

it's still relatively cheap, the weather is outstanding and the economy is great here.

The Carolina coast has become little Ohio and New Jersey. The good news is most of them are old so I see some prime real estate coming available in 10 years.

I moved to Charlotte, and I'll generally vote red. Current Repub NC put up for governor is literally an insane person, so I probably just won't vote at all on that.

We've become such a mobile country that it kind of feels like almost every desirable area will be the same in 30 years.

My wife and I's friend group is from all over, socal, NY, DC, etc and no one has a regional accent
There's still pockets of locals who have that distinct NC accent but you don't hear it often

None of those places in the Carolinas are economically depressed.

This is the most sane post I've ever read on TD.

Sad as hell for locals from this area.

When we were down in Asheville recently, we looked at some houses just out of curiosity. One that was a one story, 3 bedroom, 1 bath near the Biltmore estate was something like $1.5 million.
It’s a beautiful area but that’s nuts.

Houston is full, the weather sucks and the bugs are bad. Move to Oklahoma!
