My issue (on wife's car) is the oil level low notification came on. I tend to stretch the mileage between oil changes so I figured the car just burned some over time. Mechanic at Wal-Mart said he couldn't change the oil because there was a leak and oil "all over the bottom of the car". It had been months between the oil change and the low oil issue so if there is a leak, it must be extremely slow. Still if true, I reckon I need to have it fixed. I do wonder if it's just leaking out of the bolt, but I can't be sure. Seems if that were the case, it would drip out in the driveway and I'd notice it. Or maybe it leaks only when oil is hot while driving? Where's a good place in BR to have that checked out?

Listen . You can fix your own car, build a fence, fix the computer or iPhone, as well a nice steak for yourself . Nobody makes you have someone else to do it for you. shite painting a room for fifty bucks of paint is easy . The question is ?are
You willing to pay for someone to do it for you and what will you and everybody will pay to pay? A room will be 250 /400 depended on trim ,fence will be 15$” they will put a 5$ glass on a iPhone for at least a hundred . So go ahead and fix your ride with a autozone part and roll for a
Few weeks and do it again

ven people who have no idea about cars can do some research online, watching YouTube video and save a bunch of money doing it themselves. This isn't for everything but a lot of things.
Yep! I had my door handle break on my truck. Dealership quoted me $279 for parts and labor. I said frick that, went on YouTube and bought a handle from Autozone and had it fixed in under an hour.

I come from a family of mechanics and do this anyways. Was pretty much raised with my head under a hood and I still go the YouTube route if I don’t know something and to learn. I agree that every man should do this, seems like the amount of guys these days who don’t even know how to change a tire is ridiculously high

With that said, I dont change my own oil. Cost me $40 and I'm out of there in under 20 minutes. I would only save $8-10 doing it myself and it would take longer than 20 minutes and I have to get rid of the oil after.
Same for me. With coupons from the dealer, it's usually cheaper than just buying the stuff from Walmart and doing it myself. I get my F150 oil changed at the dealer for $34.95. It's 8 quarts and filter.

Years ago during the financial downturn, I interviewed and went through a training program to sale Toyotas.
She sales manager admitted that they do free tires/brakes for three years so they can get the cars in and find other things wrong with them.
These are your loyal customers who bought a $40,0000 vehicle from you, then you turn around and screw them.
Freaking Scum

I lol at these people that come into my shop saying they watched a youtube video on how to fix their transmission but for some reason it didnt work.

May be the oil pan gasket leaking. Although I'm mecahnically that's a repair I would leave to a shop. Mostly because they have a lift and I dont.

I agree.
Know your limitations. I was raised by an auto mechanic so I know what I can safely do. I often enjoy tinkering on the car because I have done it since I was 14. Other times, (during my busy seasons at work)- I let a mechanic do it. But...
I also know what I WANT to do based on the amount of time and money saved.
Replacing wiper blades, a car battery, a broken trim piece? Go ahead all you guys.
But when you have something like a power steering pump, a serpentine belt, or an oil leak... seriously consider getting your own mechanic unless you already know what to look for before you even start.
I would not be watching YouTube for things that could leave me stranded on the side of the road.

Not just mechanics.
Washing machine seal got tangled in clothes the other day. Wife was quoted $400. Part is pretty high online (around $108).
I'll be replacing it.
Not to say they're all bad. Have had a some repair guys tell me I'm better off doing it myself a couple of times.
Youtube is good for repair videos. Especially on appliances.

Nothing wrong with that IF they really do find another problem. If they are just making shite up, yes that’s wrong.

When I had old Ford Ranger 4 cylinder that I put 600,000 miles on I changed the timing belt every 100,000 miles.
Sad parts before each job I use knew by motorcraft part numbers what I needed.
After 4 hours of
- taking radiator out
- taking water pump out
- take out spark plugs
- pull cover off
- take pulley off with air wrench
- put belt on lining up timing
Then put everything back together 5 times I said no more and sold the truck.
The only thing I liked was being able to inspect the parts for wear and change them while everything was pulled off like idle tension pulley, thermostat, radiator cap, changed water pump once, and always changed the plugs and wires.
I took it to a shop and gladly paid $500 for the job right before I sold it.

Did he say you needed a new Johnson Rod?

Have two vehicles that are close to needing brakes (just pads, rotors ok). That is one thing I have never done and it makes me nervous.
