Yea I hear you on that.

I have like 15 things on the list to do before I would consider adding more power. Just had the water pipes welded and most of the original rubber on the engine replaced and next up is suspension rebuild.

I know some of the Lambos with 700+ HP are naturally aspirated (no turbo or superchargers).

The Ferrari 812 Superfast ( ) can top 800hp naturally aspirated, but Lamborghini has a number of models in that mid-600 and up range with natural aspiration.

My E36 1999 M3 has 245 HP. Still love the frick out of it. Naturally aspirated engines sound amazing vs turbo/SC.

Classic design and takes corners like a beast.

The current lambo offering, also available in the R8 is meh from the factory but down right terrifying in aftermarket trim. I’ve driven both boostlogic and UR huracans and holy shite.

I drove a friend’s 6 year old Tesla a few months ago, and when I got on the entrance ramp to I-10 at Highland, and had some runway ahead, I floored it. I was very surprised at the acceleration. I had heard about it, but experiencing it was something else.

As a self professed 49 year old car nut it really is mind blowing the power, reliability, and comfort modern cars have. I would have never dreamed you could drive something with 600 hp cross country with the A/C blowing and getting 20 mpg. Much less not having to adjust the valves every 100 miles

Before you know it, a BAE Hemi or a 481x will be a factory option.

You must be a young lad. My 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo had 282HP. I'd consider that a pretty decent car.

Wouldn’t that make him an older lad?

The fact they can get near 2,000hp out of an engine that has a specific power of over 110hp per liter N/A is nuckin futz.

I had a '95 in the orangy Mugello red and it is one of my all time favorite cars. I think that car with the 321hp S50 B32 Euro engine would have been damn near perfect.

I have often daydreamed about building one with an S54 engine out of the E46 M3, possibly getting to "perfect" for a sports coupe. It has been done and isn't complicated as German engine swaps go but it is a lot of time/money to put into a project car. I would do the S54 and E46 6 speed which bolts right up just with a E36 M3 auto drive shaft, you can also use the 5spd out of the E36 but I like the ratios in the 6spd better.

As I wrote this I was salivating remembering that analog driving experience with an extra 90 N/A hp behind the go pedal.

Keep in mind maybe 1 out of 10,000 people can drive a 1,000 hp car at near 90% in anything but a straight line and even that is iffy for the vast majority. 2,000 hp cars are beyond the ability of anything short of a pro sports car racer. Think about how many people you know that even do HPDEs on the track. Then realize the vast majority of them run HPDE1.

Although I break the "rule" every day driving a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car slow.

The Lancia Delta S4 group B rally car had a 1.7l 4 cylinder that could output 500 horsepower. With further tuning it could go as high as 1000 HP.

The BMW M12/13 was a 1.5l that could make 1400hp in qualy trim and 1000 in race trim. That was running IIRC about 75 pounds of boost.

On a gas engine? How is that possible?

First, I double checked the number and it was actually 79psi (5.4 bar).

Second, I would exactly call it gasoline even though F1 had a substantially similar to road car fuel rule with an octane limit of 102 RON. BMW's fuel was mostly (~80%) methylbenzene AKA toluene. Because fuel got out of hand and VERY dangerous F1 reigned it in and also limited boost to 2.5 bar (36 psi) IIRC 1988.

In 1989 my father bought a Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe, which had a supercharger. For its time, it was a pretty bad arse car and 8 year old me thought it was the fastest thing ever. 210 HP. My wife's 2021 CRV Hybrid has about the same HP and 0-60 time

Power these days are impressive, but the ability to make them streetable and hook up at these high levels is what impresses me the most.

This is my best friend's car, quick is an understatement.

Totally streetable despite 2400HP @ wheels.
