sounds like fuel pump problem

Most likely the alternator. Did all of the dials, etc go crazy before it died?
Most alternators are fairly easy to switch out yourself. Most likely will have to get it towed.

It could be alternator, timing belt, throttle body. I had a similar issue with my wife’s car and it was the throttle body. This past week the timing belt slipped off and it caused the same issue.

ECM failure
Fuel pump, fuel pump relay
Ignition or key switch issue
Wiring fault
Anti theft fault
Timing belt/chain, broken cam shaft, sheared key on crank drive gear.
Catastrophic engine failure due to Oil starvation
The possibilities are endless

Sounds like alternator, provided it didn't run out of gasoline. You don't have a tester at the house like a real man? Might need to change your name to LSUSUPERSTARLETTE

quote:wrong. corrosion on terminals can cause same symptom, which is most likely the problem.
If everything started going dim before it died, definitely the alternator

You may need to adjust your carburetor.

I’m absolutely certain the mechanical invalids on here will suggest all kinds of neat theories. You came to the right place, your wallet will thank you for the weight loss

If you're coming to the OT for advice then don't waste your time playing roadside mechanic. Let AAA just tow it to the shop.

My guess would be alternator.

I had a car that ran out of gas because the gas gauge was broken.

Fuel pump high and low

I didn’t realize my alternator wasn’t charging my battery anymore until I was driving on the highway and my entire truck started to wig out. Talk about scared the crap out of me when power steering failed.

I had a car with a similar issue and had it “repaired” twice but the problem persisted. I sold it after it was repaired twice and died a third time because it was no longer reliable transportation.
If you choose to get the car repaired, take whatever precautions you can to prepare your daughter to be ready if it happens again.

I’ve had my distributor cap lose a connection and shut it down like a dead battery.

Our Honda Pilot misfired because the battery was so low. I was under the impression that the alternator was responsible for power while running but apparently that’s not the case with newer vehicles. Replace battery and everything was fine.
ETA..if everything started dimming before shut down, yeah probably alternator. I had this happen with my first car.

Thanks all. I tried to jump it and whenever I removed the jumper cables, it died immediately which leads me to believe alternator because the battery is new. Getting it towed to a mechanic so they can check it out tomorrow.

Yeah, maybe so, but my days of working on vehicles is over. My time off is worth more than the money. It is her car, she is an adult, and will pay for it.
