My grandfather hated Japanese cars because of the war
So did my Father who first worked on the weather forecast for Normandy and then was assigned to the Pacific. He swore he wouldn't buy a Japanese car.
Then after Chevies and Fords broke down on him in stupid ways, I flew home and he picked me up in his Toyota station wagon which he kept happily until his death about ten years later.

Ford and Nissan are the top two I avoid

GM! For screwing over every employee with their bankruptcy crap
Their employees were screwing over their customers with their ridiculous pay, benefits and pension packages when robots could have done it all for half the cost.

Likely list overall, Dodge pickups maybe not.
However it's more about year. When did this or that change, get updated, or improved. Kia's don't know about but have often heard as being not insurable.
There's a bunch of different reasons why I picked that list. Some of it is reliability, some of it is because I just don't like the cars they build.

It’s easier to list brands I would buy and it’s only 2
Toyota and Honda.
If I need a truck I’ll go with a Tacoma or tundra

The Swedes made good cars until GM bought them. Ford bought Volvo and did a better job of managing the relationship while they owned them.

Having Toyota and not Chrysler on your list is a choice.

Anything GM
Hyundai
Kia
Genesis
Range Rover
Audi
VW
Basically anything other than Toyota or Honda. I wouldn’t shy away from Subaru, my relatives own the dealership. They also own Infiniti and Acura dealerships.
I’ve had 4 Toyotas, the 4 I put a total of over 620,000 miles, without any major problems.

If you ever see a Ford in my driveway some poor sob broke down and the tow truck hasn’t made it there yet

Agreed.
Greely owns them now.
Ford bought Jaguar and made them really solid: that 5.0 SC was an awesome engine.
Ford sold them to Tata and unsurprisingly, they promptly screwd it up. AI strikes again.

I don't give a damn about anything other than getting from point A to B.
I have an Accord with over 230,000 miles.
If it goes out, I don't have the money to get another car.
