If you're not happy, straight to the gulags. Get happy comrades!

Are they under the impression that nobody does any of those things in non-capitalist societies?

commuting
Same here unless you're on a family farm. Which means you don't have a boss, but you work very hard and for more than 40 hours a week.

Articles like this are usually written by wealthy white progressives who live in lily white wealthy communities who's only interaction with minorities and the poor is when they come by to cut the lawn and clean the pool.
But the struggle is real comrade!

That's what's funny. These idiots have no idea the average work week was ~42 hours in ussr and for 11 years they had a 6 day work week but your wife had different day of than you.
Don't meet production...get punished. Do it again and punishment is worse. 3rd time.....off to siberia...yea sounds like a great system. But to mention the forced OT

People like the writer have no understanding of communism. The hammer and sickle represent hard work.
There will be no lazy, porch sitters. They will work where they are told or they will be dumped into a mass grave.

Once asked a gal in my cycling group if she liked socialism. She replied: “yeah! twitter and facebook are awesome”. Yes, this person voted in the last election.

The writer doesn't mention communism a single time in the essay. Every critique of capitalism isn't an argument for communism. I didn't even take away from the essay it was a full-on critique of capitalism, but rather pointing out a few current issues with it.

In a capitalist system, many people don’t have time to see family and maintain existing friendships — let alone create and nurture new ones.
That's not capitalism, that's consumerism and keeping up with the Joneses.

In socialist or communist systems, your family can be thrown into prison or be executed for not complying.

Every critique of capitalism
A lot of the critiques of capitalism aren’t even inherent to capitalism. They exist in a variety of societies because they are inherent to human nature and human societies as a whole. That’s the problem with these types of arguments

I am certain the author is quite proud of itself for throwing all that out there and not using the actual word "Communism." "No, no, I'm not advocating communism or socialism...lookit, FIND the WORD in the article. See? That's all you people can come up with." Meanwhile it describes them to a "T."

Do most people really crave that much social interaction? I'm a casually social person, but as I get older, the idea of maintaining relationships for their own sake just seems more and more tedious. I have a spouse and kids and I have friends that I know will always be my friends even if we only get together a few times a year. That's plenty for me.
I'd wager natural predisposition to antisocial behavior from aging promotes capitalism rather than the other way around.

I mean, to be perfectly honest, the best form of society would be small, homogeneous, cooperatives. That kind of voluntary socialism can WORK in those small settings where everyone is contributing and all is agreed upon.
The Amish do this to some degree. I've never heard of an Amish family on food stamps or not paying their medical bills. When someone's house/barn burns down they band together and build another one in weeks. They take care of their own.
