Most likely has something to do with your IP address. Disclosure: I don't know a thing about the innerwebs.

As a rule, an IP address can be linked to a city at worst and an area/zip code sized area at best.

So why all the outrage about the law? What if it does make it more difficult for kids?

"Won't someone think of the children?!?" is a favorite of the anti-gun crowd. Sure you want to join that chorus?

Are you dumb enough to think this measure makes it more difficult for kids to access porn?

Anyone with an ounce of sense knows some kids will figure out a way to game the system. For years kids have figured out ways to circumvent alcohol and tobacco age laws. Since some kids can get around those laws, should they be repelled? Should it be legal for a 5 year old to go buy a case of beer and a pack of Camels at the local 7-11?

quote:

There’s porn on Twitter, Reddit, and any number of “non-porn” sites that are not impacted by this stupid law.

Then either these sites should have to either do away with the porn or put measures into effect to make it difficult for underage kids to access it.

Here’s the bottom line. For decades there have been laws on the books that made it mandatory for businesses who sell pornography, alcohol, tobacco, and firearms verify those buying their product are old enough to do so. These laws are in place because it’s obvious that underage kids can’t comprehend the consequences of using and/or consuming these things. Why should internet pornography be exempt from the same standards?

Is it really that important to you to be able to have unfettered masturbatory material at your disposal?

It doesn’t, at all.

Maybe its naive.

But who gives a frick.

I do. It’s not about fricking porn. Its about liberty and government overreach.

Again, I just dont understand why people are so outraged they cant access thier porn in one click any longer. The horror.

This is because you are a simpleton.

Are you under the impression that this bill changes that reality? The only thing this bill does is introduce the state into areas it has zero business interfering.

Don’t want your kid to watch porn 24/7? Be a better parent. Not the state’s job.

Is it your opinion theres no issue worthy of this? That the term along invalidates any child protection laws?

Because no one said that here but you.

I don't see how this is any different than laws requiring your ID before buying a drink, or buying weed.

Kinda weird to be arguing to make it easier for children to watch porn, is it not?

Then what’s the point of restricting businesses from selling alcohol, tobacco, and firearms by requiring they verify the age of the person buying them? Since you say the state has no business interfering then, by your logic, those laws need to be repelled as soon as possible, right?

Thankfully my kids are older so I don’t have to worry about this issue. But let’s not pretend that we don’t live in a society that’s completely inundated with pornography. It’s literally everywhere. And we know the lifelong terrible effects that porn can have on kids. No matter how good of a job a parent does, short of literally locking them in a room with no access to the outside world, as things stand today kids can easily access porn. It’s not unreasonable to make those who deal in internet pornography to live up to the same standard we place on brick & mortar businesses that deal in the same product.

So again I ask, why should the internet porn industry be exempt from the same standards placed on all other businesses that deal in products that are restricted from underage kids? Why is internet pornography special? Answer this question and I might change my mind.

I support putting obstacles in the way of kids watching porn…we had to do things the hard way when I was a kid for porn. For example, there was a divorced dad with all the good channels. During the summer we’d leave a blank tape in the VCR, let it record all day, go out and play all day, come back hours later with a tape full of smut. We earned that shite

With all of the things broken in this state, glad to know this is what was on the Legislature’s mind this past summer.
