And disrespectful.

quote:
A member of a Canadian singing quartet changed a lyric in his country’s national anthem and held up a sign proclaiming “All Lives Matter” during a pregame performance at the 87th All-Star Game on Tuesday.
quote:
The other members of the group are shocked and embarrassed by the actions of Remigio Pereira, who changed the lyrics of our national anthem and used this coveted platform to serve his own political views. Our sincere apologies and regrets go out to everybody who witnessed this shameful act, to our fellow Canadians, to Major League Baseball, to our friends, families, fans and to all those affected. The actions of one member of this group were extremely selfish, and he will not be performing with The Tenors until further notice.”

Well it is disrespectful to change the lyrics to your national anthem just to make a political statement.

Who knew that, in 2016, saying every person's right to life is important would land you in hot water?

So he rammed all lives matter into the song? I don't think it's shameful, but I can see where it's annoying and his fellow singers wouldn't be happy.

I don't care what this person did or did not do....but I will say this. I watch sports for many reasons, and one of the main reasons is to get away from the real world and its problems. So if I turn on the all-star game, I really don't want to be subjected to anyone's political beliefs, no matter what they are. I have had it up to my eyeballs lately with "black lives matter" and "all lives matter" and "OT lives matter"...blah blah blah blah...so I will be damned if I want to see it during a sports event....so frick the Canadian who felt the need to do this.

I'm pretty sure it is more about the fact that he changed the lyrics of his nation's anthem rather than the actual political view.

Saying all lives matter is political??

I agree. The OT would be up in arms if someone changes words to our national anthem.

No...but it brings up a subject that I have been overloaded with the last 10 days or so. Can I not get away from this shite ANYWHERE?

Don't be disingenuous. While the words themselves aren't the most political sounding things in the world, it 100% is the counter to Black Lives Matter. So I would currently consider that phrase political.

Exactly

It's not saying "all lives matter" that's shameful, it's changing the lyrics of their national anthem that's a disgrace.

Absolutely.
I would find it disrespectful if someone inserted some political statement into the US anthem.
The only acceptable modification is inserting "TIGERS" into the end, but pretty much every fan base does that, right?

Ah, my bad

A Canadian being disrespectful? That's like dividing by zero.

I think it's probably a bit disrespectful to stick any kind of personal political message into the singing of your nation's national anthem. That said, had he said "black lives matter" rather than "all lives matter", he wouldn't be getting 1/10th of the backlash, and in some circles might be hailed as a "hero". If you believe otherwise then you are completely naive
