I am looking at a GLS 450 and want to have it for 10-15 years. Can you put that kind of mileage on a one, or will it fall apart in 3 years like a BMW?
Yes but it will be be a very expensive 200k miles as you will have to replace everything.

Can you put 200k miles on a Mercedes SUV?
unlike the cars from the 70s, todays engines can easily go 250k miles, mostly trouble free, as a normal expectation

it'll last, but there's new bells and whistles every 6 months. You'll want to upgrade.

The rest of the vehicle is where the devils reside.
And they are Legion, for they are many.
Lexus is the least painful way to go for 200k.

For 200k miles, get a lexus GX. If you don't want a lexus, get a tahoe or yukon. Zee Germans can make it that far, but it would be cheaper for you to buy another Mercedes at 100k

I can afford repairs, but I don’t want a money pit either. Anywhere close to Lexus reliability?
Not even in the same universe, get a RX350 or 450, in 200K miles all you are probably going to pay for is oil changes.

Everyone I know who has owned a Mercedes can't get rid of it quickly enough

Not if its a diesel!
And yea, as others have said maintenance/repair is pricy. It cost over $300 to get a code read and half of the info the CMU send is bullshite. Yea I own a ML350 bluetec

Easily. Have a 2008 350 going strong and looking great with 251K miles. No issues ever.

Build a mother in law suite at the house. Move a mechanic in and provide him with a full Mercedes shop of parts and machines. You should be fine.

As long as there are no design flaws. Unfortunately BMW and Mercedes have popular engines currently in manufacture that have problems that can destroy the engine in less than 100k miles if not caught soon enough.

Mercedes was building million mile cars in the seventies. They were very well built. I don’t know what their recent vehicles are like, but up through the W124 and R129, Mercedes were engineered for extraordinary durability.

LOL No.
Mercedes hasn’t built anything for longevity since 1992. BMW is even worse than Jaguar these days too.
If you want to rack up that kind of mileage in an SUV, get a Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Land Cruiser, GMC Yukon, Chevy Tahoe, or a Chevy Suburban.

No.
If you want Lexus reliability, there is a brand you can buy that will get you that.

A Mercedes or BMW will be mechanically totaled well before 200k.
Stick with Toyota or even a Yukon or Suburban if you want to go that kind of mileage without extreme repair bills.

Easily, Germans only buy one car every ten years or so so their cars are built ti last 10-20 years
