and pushups are a great overall predictor of health but pullups/chinsups are an even better indicator as are ring pushups.

other good ones are reverse lunges(stability), reverse bear crawls(again stability and mobility) and deadlift(overall force production)

all the animal crawls are amazing indicators really.

I wish they had an adult version of what we used to do in Middle School. President's Award, or something, it was called.

Apparently, if you can do 40 push-ups, your risk for cardiovascular disease drops some ridiculous amount. I want to say 98% less likely.

Workout daily and can only do about 5 dead hang strict pull ups unbroken.

Can do more bullshite pull-ups kipping

can also do a muscle up kipping

If you can’t touch your toes you probably need to make some life changes, that’s pretty sad

why?? do you think 60 and 70 year olds suddenly shouldnt be able to move their bodyweight through space?

you think that because its uncommon and people are fricking weak, they its not possible? because you are wrong, like really wrong.

But I'm "old" (in my 50's)

50s isnt old dude. it only feels old because you are used to being sedetary and are extremely weak

I think I can still do a few pullups.

yea very doubtful you can do pullups. the #1 thing with getting better at pullups is lack of bodyfat. 2nd is practicing pullups.

lets put it this away 90% of people who have not performed a pullup in more than a year, will not be able to perform a pullup, especially if they have a dad bod aka 25% + bodyfat in most cases. 20%+ for sure.

They'd jump on the bar, pull to about 6 inches below their chin, and then start flailing like a fish to offset gravity, and then maybe, MAYBE be able to get their chin over the bar.

At my daughters school they make the kids now do “sit ups” with nobody holding their feet and hands extended by their sides. WTF is up with that? My daughter crushed the mile, flexibility, pull-ups, push-ups, and literally everything else but failed this step because her feet came fr the ground doing the crunches before she completed 12.

Do your shoulders slope forward and are your shoulders/chest tight?

For years I’ve done pushups but no pull-ups. My shoulders and chest are super tight and I don’t have “normal” range of motion in my shoulders when stretching them. I’m wondering if I overworked/built one half of the joint muscles.

I was going to type a long reply, and then simply landed on this.

How old, (approximately) are you?

You're just immobile because you don't stretch

My guess, 25ish real unbroken pullups. I haven't done a max set in a long time, but I did 5 sets of 15 banded on Monday as an accessory exercise.

Gots to do those behind the neck pullups to make all the girls in the Box gushy. After watching all the kipping those slow behind the neck ones makes 'em wilt like cut flowers in the sun, son.

That too. However I have started stretching again and even when I was in high school and stretching seriously 6 days a week for sports my shoulders were never as flexible as others.

I know i can improve it, I was just wondering if years of push-ups but very few pull-ups had any impact on it.

I leave a bar in my bathroom doorway and knock out 3.50 every time I finish shitting. Sometimes before, as an extra test.

it was the presidential physical fitness test and 95% of the OT couldnt even get the health award

you essentially had 3 levels

best- presidetial(85th percentile)
good- national(50th percentile)
ok- health/partcipant- (25th percentile)

situps-30
v-sit reach- 1(reach 1" past toes)
1 mile run-7:30
pullups- 6 dead hang
pushups- 18

presidential:

national:

i can honestly say i would not be able to do the 1 mile run in 7:30 just on the health/participants level.

umm yea you neglected your posterior chain big time, you need to get a band and start atleast doing 100 band pull aparts a night to get that upper back some strength

also get a broom stick and start with 25 full range shoulder dislocates(google it) daily and slowly working to 50 a day and working those hands closer and closer.

I cannot touch my toes. Zero flexibility. I can do at least 10 pull ups at a time possible more.
