IME is the place is picked up and neat they spend more time actually cleaning.

Now the crew of Guatemalans my wife hired after our last maid retired are fricking unbelievable. I had some dirty clothes in my closet that were not in the hamper, they fricking folded up and stacked them like they were new in a store. I swear when they leave the house is cleaner than it was when the builder handed us the keys. They even have some tool they use to clean the dog hair of the dog's beds. I keep telling my wife I am divorcing her and marrying one of them.

What do you want to pay the maid to do? Deep clean the house or load your dishwasher? It all pays the same.

This. My maid is at my house for a set amount of time. I want her cleaning things, not picking up dog toys or clothes off the floor or whatever.

This is the answer. I can clean the kitchen or pick up after the kids.

I want someone else to dust, do the floors, and all that stuff.

My mom would have all three of us girls straighten our rooms and pick up our stuff before the maid came so it would be easier on her.

Your mom had three maids and hired another?

My wife always straightens before the cleaning ladies come. We have 2 that come once an week.

We don’t call them “maids”. They are our housekeepers/cleaning ladies and are awesome. We take very good care of them and they do great job for us.

My wife is very specific on what she ask them to do and lets them know what they don’t have to do.

I would say the same stuff to the ex.

I said so you want me to wash the car and then go take it to Benny’s also? Because that’s the exact same shite.

She would get pissed but i always just stood firm and said I’m not cleaning prior to the house being cleaned by someone we pay to clean!

Mine doesn’t speak English, so I like to put important shite where I want it so she doesn’t screw if up. Otherwise she totally kicks arse.

My MIL will dust everything, then the cleaning lady will dust the very same thing. Women don’t want the cleaning women to think their house is dirty. It’s so weird.

You don't get your money's worth that way. The maid spends her 2 hours tidying and doing easy shite you can do yourself rather than the actual deep cleaning you hired her for.

That's not cleaning. That's decluttering or you could not clutter in the first place.

This is purely a comment based on my own unfortunate anecdotal evidence.

Same issue in the Illini house. The anxiety and angst that happens the night before the cleaning lady comes is unreal. You would think the queen of England was coming to clean our house while live streaming the whole thing.

We pick up all of our shite so the maid can clean the toilets and floors. This isn't complicated.

Well in this context it’s a lot easier to call them maids.
Cleaning person (lady), housekeeper - herein referred to as “maid” for short.

Ugh this was an every Thursday argument with me and my mom growing up

I am such a spoiled twat I would put Gum in the garbage can with no bag in it, because I would say hey “ whatever the maids name was”
Don’t move my stuff and it’ll be ok. Except she moved my stuff so I would put gum in the garbage can so she’s have to scrape it out of the garbage .

My wife (no pics) freaks out and starts cleaning every other Wednesday night (shite, it’s tomorrow) before the cleaning lady (no pics) or anytime her mom (no pics) is coming over.

…and that’s pretty much the only times.

My brother had hired a maid. Their house was a complete disaster when the kids were young. Stuff everywhere. Every room had trip hazards. My brother is too into his own agenda and never picked up, even when we were kids. The maid worked in our family for over 20 years, and after a week working for him she demanded more money. She spent her entire time picking up toys and not cleaning. At first she stayed a couple hours longer, but then said hell no. My brother did not like that at all. A few weeks later she did not show up (which she does every once in a while) so he fired her.

Never had another maid after. The place stayed a landfill for years.

Yes, you tidy up stuff before she comes. She does the dishes from overnight, washes bedding, deep cleans bathrooms and kitchen, sweep and mop, takes out the trash, do ironing if requested, clean out the fridge, etc. If you don't tidy up things get put in abnormal places, and you get a half assed job on the deep cleaning portion of the visit.
