Hope i explained correctly. U turn only lane with a light. You are making a left on one way street. Can you turn on red, no signage about no turns on red.

Not sure about the legality, but I do this. No different than making a right hand turn at a light in my mind.

Only legal left turn on red is usually from a one-way to another one-way. Meaning, no one is coming from the opposite direction on either road you are traveling.

ETA: Roads separated by medians are not "one-way" roads.

Pretty sure that’s a naw if there is no sign saying otherwise. We have a sign in a U turn by design in my hood. I do it anyway if no cops and no traffic.

If you make a U turn on a one way street, you are now travelling in the wrong direction on the one way street. If not, it isn't a U turn.

Not sure what’s confusing about this. Seems pretty straightforward.

So mid U, you are staring at a light for your lane. Can you finish the U turn on a red light if the oncoming traffic is clear?

Ok now this makes more sense than what I got from OP.

In the case you’re referring to, it depends. The intersections that allow you to continue will have a sign that says “left turn permissable after stop” or something along those lines. There are a few of them in New Orleans. However, if there’s no sign saying it’s allowed then you have to wait for the cycle.

R.S. 32:232(3)(c), in addressing steady red lights states:

quote:

(c) Except when a sign prohibits a turn, vehicular traffic facing any steady red signal may cautiously enter the intersection to turn right, or to turn left from a one-way street into a one-way street, or to U-turn at a signalized U-turn after stopping as required by Subparagraph (a) or Subparagraph (b) of this Paragraph. Such vehicular traffic shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using the intersection.

Are you turning into an intersection? If so, if there is a solid white line in the intersection (in the area you just turned left into), you're supposed to stop at the line and wait for the cycle. If there is no line, you need to yield to pedestrians and oncoming traffic, but should be good to go after that unless otherwise noted by signage.
