Read ten pages and no mention of the "hit van" that was stopped and eventually searched. Two mafia fellas arrested back in maybe 2010 or so. Wasn't long ago I know that. Somewhere around Nola and they had the whole back of the van cleared out with a chair and guns in the back. It was a makeshift hit van with a hole cut out of the back door for the kill shot. The two guys had long rap sheets and most of the crimes sound like mafia type shite

Don't River Pilots get paid by how many "turns" they do and then get a significant annual bonus?
Maybe I'm completely mistaken about their income structure. However, the short term loan banking behavior is not exclusive to river pilots. "Big Law" attorneys, investment bankers, and other professions with year end bonuses that make up over half of their annual income operate in a similar manner.

That happened in Metairie. The JPSO arrested those two. One guy was pretty old, like 65 or 70. The other was mid-40s, if I recall correctly.
The was a whole "Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight" aspect to that deal. I don't remember how the case was finally settled.

You made a very broad statement about a group of people that number in the hundreds. Do you really think they are all just running to the bank for loans because they all live these crazy lifestyles?
Come on.
Most of these guys are 40 to 70 years old with families. Lets not act like its a bunch of 21 year old football players that just got drafted and blowing money left and right on worthless shite

Really good friend of mine has been doing that for a long time out of Pilottlown and never heard of him running to the bank for loans like that.

Carlos's brother and son owned Elmwood plantation, along with nick mosca who was the chef there.
Vinny's grandpa originally opened Mosca's in avondale in a building carlos owned.

My close friend(in each other's weddings) is married to one. They are nice women and don't seem like mafia people

When you become a pilot, you are joining an established business as a partner essentially. The loan is usually to cover those costs. It's not because they are reckless spenders or tied to the mob.

I was initially responding to a person who implied that a river pilot's loan application was quickly approved because of mob connections.
I tried to explain that some well paid professionals experience short term cash flow shortages and solve that problem with a personal loan. This is particularly true for people who receive yearend bonuses that make up 40, 50 or maybe even 80 percent of their annual income. I have a relative who is an investment banker in NYC. She makes an absolute shitload of money - real OT Baller Money - but is cash poor every Spring until her ridiculous bonus arrives.
It wasn't a knock against all river pilots or even those who do take short term loans to meet cash flow needs. I wish I was a river pilot.

13 pages in and no mention of how Carlos got started. Sylvestro Carolla started the Cosa Nostra in New Orleans. Carlos started and worked his way up through Carolla and took over when Carolla got deported.

Some friends of mine were eating at Impastatos in Metairie a long while ago. Carlos walked into the restaurant and slapped Mr. Joe Impastato the owner in the face, in front of everyone. They told me everyone in the restaurant got up and left within abt a minute, along with Mr. Joe.

A relevant point that I overlooked...
A newly accepted pilot, assuming he has a decent credit history, would be quickly approved for a loan to fund his "buy in". Or whatever the politically correct euphemism is.
Again, I wasn't trying to imply that every bar pilot (or whomever) was living beyond his means. I was trying to explain that there was no correlation between quick loan approvals and the mob.
