Older people saying that it flies by is the truth. Seems like mine had a nu nu in her mouth yesterday. Now she's almost 5' tall and heading to middle school next year

Say goodbye to spontaneous, frequent sex. Say hello to vulnerability and all of the worries about all manner of bad things that could befall your child.

That said, it's great. I love my son, but baby girls are funny as can be the first 6 years. So much personality and precociousness.

I think this is the first time I've viewed my parents as "old". Being faced with the reality of becoming a father has made me realize that life is flying.

I was the same way with my first. I'm a Dad of 3 boys and it's a blast man.

As someone earlier in the thread described; when you hold your newborn baby there's no better feeling in the world. It'll fill you with emotion for sure.

The main advice I'd give doesn't concern wiping asses and changing diapers. The best advice I could give is to be patient with Mrs. LSUengineer for the next couple of months.

As nervous as you are, she's terrified. Even more so than you, a new human is going to depend on her more than anyone else to survive. She won't get much sleep for while and she could even deal with post-partum depression.

I'm not saying any of this to scare you, but to remind you to be supportive.

Your life is about to change for the better and you'll never know what you did before that little baby stole your heart.

Sorry if this post is long and/or mushy, but I'm away from my kids for 5 more months (work) and really miss them.

Had my first 3 months ago, a boy. It's hands down the greatest thing ever. Since having him I have found that I'm much happier in day to day life. Congrats

Like others have said. Becoming a father is the easy part.

But being a dad and raising a kid makes your life before fatherhood seem pretty insignificant.

By the way get ready to not sleep, like from now on

Being a dad is the coolest thing I have ever experienced. I have a little girl and it definitely made me a better man. The second she let out a sound I immediately wanted to be a better person.

Enjoy the enormous responsibility you now have. It is your job to protect and love your child while raising a productive member of our society. Give that child plenty of support, encouragement, kindness, morals, and discipline.

It will take a little bit for the full spectrum of the responsibility to set in. When it does, it will drive you and change your perspective.

Its a daily challenge full of ups and downs. For example, my 6 yr old son, wants to go live with his friends family currently. We have been "discussing" this for 2 days now....

6 yr old logic is fun... Best of luck to you and yours.

Try having your youngest as a sophomore in college...

But my eldest has a NextGen package on the way....

And the middle one is getting married next Spring!

I am off today. I just left my kids school and will be going back. There is nothing that will make you feel more awesome than your kids I lighting up and then throwing their little alarming around you and hugging you and saying I love you daddy.

If it wasn’t for my kids I don’t know if I’ll still be here. I went through some dark dark dark times and the thing that kept me going was the thought that I have to be here for my children. They needed a daddy more than any temporary heart ache or pain.

Do you want to feel like Superman. Do you want to feel like you matter in this world. And be a good dad and your children will give that to you.

Top priority.. many ills in our society could be solved by quality duel parenting.. don’t take this to mean a hovering parent..

And you aren’t going to break them. A lesson we usually learned on subsequent children

NillaWafer will be 2 in two days, and boy are you right. I try to remind myself about soaking it up when you can every time she comes and wants to see what I’m doing. Although I admittedly sometimes view it as an interruption, have to remember she wants to hang with me so I’m going to enjoy it when I can now, because at some point she’ll turn into a teenager.

This is good advice. Pregnancy is tough and can be scary. Make sure she knows you are there for her.
