The first sentence is talking about San Francisco's residential water consumption. The second sentence is talking about San Francisco's total water consumption, independent of sector.

ah, I guess that makes it not as bad.

Exactly.

The energy requirements are extraordinary.

It would take a real commitment of resources and government foresight to make these a practical realty; California has neither.

Well, commitment of resources by the CA government is no problem. Just look at how many cities they linked with billions for high speed rail. Oh, wait......

Desal isn't a golden ticket. It is energy intensive and creates a highly concentrated salt solution that has to be deposed be either discharging into the ocean or injecting it into the ground.

Then pump the solution offshore via pipeline and discharge it on bottom in 1000 feet of water where it will quickly be diluted to irrelevance in whatever current runs through there.

Or i guess you could continue not having water in your hydrant system?

The thing with this is, this is widely known by state officials and legislators and yet none of them chose to do anything about it when it was firmly in their power to do so.

May have been posted but I'm not reading all of the political crap.

There used to be a large lake in the southern part of the valley that has practically disappeared due to farming.

A main theme of California's history is that of oligarchs controlling water and using terraforming to create agricultural zones and sprawling cities in areas which could not naturally support it.

It's been the subject of critique, movies and books for almost a century. It's Roman Polanki's Chinatown.

The Resnicks are recent heirs to that California throne.

It's not likely their ownership and control of water in California specifically inhibited firefighting.

However, it's not a story many wealthy investors anywhere like being in the spotlight because it's one where rapid sprawling development and multiplying fortune trumps any long term sustainability concern.

That develop at all costs dynamic is a backdrop for this disaster in Los Angeles.

If there's political blame in any of the natural disasters, it's mainly through this dynamic and NO major politician ever gets to any position of power by not entering that high stakes game.

Just call me the dirty Jew like you really want to. I know you do. It’s what you’re thinking and talking about with all the boys when nobody else is around.

But if you’d bothered to read my clarification, I pointed out almond milk for a reason, not because your lactose intolerant spawn are a particular pain point for me.

Based on my pistachio consumption I'm probably responsible for a few million cubic meters of California water usage
