Your columnist is a devout follower of state public health officials and their guidance. I wear two masks in public settings and get tested regularly, even after having had all three of my COVID vaccine shots.
This is from a piece he wrote in October. He's pretty full on progressive even though he's a well published journalist. Everything he writes is like this.

Pretty much what I got out of it, calling out California government with its ridiculous legislation it comes up with sometimes.
Some people on here take shite verbatim when they read it and really need to understand sarcasm..
Except many of his recent articles advocate more government overreach that isn’t outlandishly crazy like this, such as cancelling attendance to the Rose Bowl and Super Bowl due to COVID.
Like I said, I can buy it’s satire, I want it to be satire.
But I don’t see a target of it.
Or a history of it.
Only clues of it are a couple of potentially coincidental phrases

I need to read more as I had no idea what “A Modest Proposal” was/is

I looked up some of his article titles, I admit I didn’t read any of them, and unless he’s consistently writing satire the title didn’t blatantly reveal any satire on his part.

That's what I was struggling with. But what's so scary about that is our world is so insane right now we have to ask ourselves if it's an actual opinion or satire.
I immediately thought it might be satire since it came from Ventura county, which is one of the few conservative areas on the California coast.

What is the point here? Who is the target?
If it is satire, as I think it is, the point is to out virtue signal the progressive wealthy families that public ally espouse these progressive beliefs of communal harmony through abolition of private rights in hopes of fostering equity by telling them to give up their rights as parents.
The target audience is those families that preach progressivism yet still live in a traditional family household and followed the traditional order of:
High school+ degree
Job
Married
Children

Good grief, it's a satire piece

my proposal is quite modest
That said, it wasn't very funny.

We need to kick California, Oregon and Washington out of the Union along with NYC.

Apparently he lives in L.A. now.

Satire doesn’t mean funny, it means satirical.

We already offer free food, free/reduced housing, free education with free school supplies, food and a free bus to get you there and back. If generations of people can't figure out how to be mildly successful with this set up, I'm not sure what to tell them.
Anyone who denies this is simply being intellectually dishonest. What's holding them back is their own personal choices, not the system

He looks like he is high as shite in his bio pic.

Republicans are happy to jettison parents’ rights in pursuit of their greatest passions, like violating migrant rights. Once you’ve gone so far as to take immigrant children from their parents and put them in border concentration camps, it’s a short walk to separating all Americans from their progeny.
Time out. Someone remind me who originally built those cages.

This seems like a modern take on A Modest Proposal. He even says his proposal is modest, which I thought was a bit on the nose
pretty confident in saying this is satire mocking the language of equity

In his “Republic,” Plato adopted Socrates’ sage advice — that children “be possessed in common, so that no parent will know his own offspring or any child his parents” — in order to defeat nepotism, and create citizens loyal not to their sons but to society.
Did this columnist mention that these boys were raped on mass by these Greek philosophers? These people are fricking pedophiles.

All this will prove is its not the kids, but the parents.
You take a black kid and put him in a white christian home with two parents and he becomes a millionaire.

"Quite modest proposal" and "brave new world" should give it away.
The best part is that it made it into yahoo.
