California officially became the first state in the nation on Wednesday, Dec. 5 to require homes built in 2020 and later be solar powered.

That's a fricked up state.

Once again, the middle class gets screwed. You better make 500,000 grand a year, or you ain't building shite in CA. No wonder so many people are running for Texas, Nevada, Arizona, etc.

What's the OTs opinion on this?

A lot of oil will be needed for the manufacturing of all these new solar panels.

Pre-manufactured homes manufactured out of state will become the only affordable homes for the middle class.

Congrats California, you're stupid in three languages.

I’m from Louisiana so I will oppose anything that keeps me from throwing full McDonalds bags out the window on highways.

What's the payback on these things?
I paid more for a higher SEER on my AC units.
And I may be in favor of solar, if the payback is reasonable.
But, I doubt it is

Will homeowners insurance over any damage to them?? Pretty sure that’s not covered here in Louisiana.

Solar is nice but the cells wear out and have to be replaced after X number of years, which limits their usefulness.

I just see it as yet another reason why housing costs in California is insanely high and only getting higher.

I don't know if this is the right way to go about this, but eventually we are going to need to shift away from fossil fuels.

I know we're a really long ways off from running out of oil or anything, but it's gonna happen one day. I say we increase our use of solar, wind, and nuclear energy wherever it's feasible to do so.

It’s California. Most places tend to have tens of thousands of dollars in deferred maintenance because anyone who buys it will do a tear down and new build.

This will be fine in people in Southern Cali where it’s almost always sunshine and clear weather. But what about further north were they have long periods of cloudy and foggy weather?

Same thing I was wondering. The northern coast of CA is probably the foggiest place I've ever been.
