It was brought to our attention that the national anthem’s third verse is outdated and racially offensive, wrote the president of the school’s Associated Study Body. “We had nothing but good intentions by removing the song so that we could be fully inclusive to our student body.”

Were they playing the third verse?

And where is that band who so vauntinglyswore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

So now the mere mention of slaves is racist.

That song is a poem about a historical battle and slaves were present. Big fricking deal.

Just for context.

At this point, we are in desperate need of a war to remind these fricking idiots what exactly they are taking for granted.

It's probably more disrespectful to essentially erase that it ever happened from the public.

Yeah it's a poem written by Key as an account of what he saw in the bombardment of fort McHenry. He's saying there was no place of safety for the unarmed hirelings and slaves. It's literally a factual account of what happened

Edit: I seem to be wrong about unarmed hirelings, but still, not racist.

This goes back to the sad state of education and the inability to think logically. In Key's time 'slave' was hurled at person of all colors, nationalities and conditions of servitude or otherwise.

They see the word slave and it can only mean one thing. There's a lack of the fundamental ability to see the world outside of their beliefs and condition.

He could have also just been trying to rhyme.

I didn't know there are other verses to The Star Spangled Banner. Why not remove the verses nobody is aware of instead of banning the whole thing?

Never mind..... California dumbasses

It isn't about context. Just the mere mention of the word is enough.
