Agreed. Usually on cases where it’s determined that it was a hoax the person is forced to pay for all expenses related to said hoax.
In this case, slander also applies.

BYU bitched out and took long enough that the freaks on twitter and reddit have long moved on but will always remember the time racist BYU fans attacked a black Duke player.

Yet, Dawn Staley and the Univ. of S. Carolina have essentially defamed the entire state of Utah and BYU based upon zero, zilch, a complete fabrication.
