I think hyundai has gotten their shite together after recent issues. I bought my elantra after the engine blew in the santa fe i had. No issues so far

I will add if the dealer hadnt offered a lifetime drivetrain warranty at no added cost i probably wouldnt have bought it.

Whatever you save up front on the Hyundai, you’ll lose that and more on the tail end. Just bite the bullet and buy a Toyota- even a used one. In 10yrs, that used 4Runner will still be fantastic, and that Hyundai will probably be in a junk yard.

My wife’s Palisade has more features and is more comfortable than the $80k Mercedes I almost bought her. That $30k savings before we even begin maintenance costs is pretty impressive.

Order it and get everything in writing. When we bought, we ended up ordering from a dealer several hundred miles away since inventory was so low. We had email communication that we were getting it at MSRP. When it arrived the “new” sales manager tried to tack on a $5k market adjustment. He even tried to say he was going to refund our deposit and sell it to someone else. In the end we didn’t pay the markup but it got ugly for a bit. I really hate car salesmen

Yes, they can still make money selling at MSRP. I am not willing to pay more.

Well, I guess you aren't getting a Palisade.

I'm no economist, but the dealer is selling based on what he can get; you being unwilling to pay it isn't going to move the market.

Now, if everyone suddenly became unwilling to pay that rate, then sure, it will drop. But your unwillingness to pay isn't a factor.

My wife traded in her Mercedes GLS on a Palisade. She likes it better and I walked away with a check.

10/10 would not go hyundai or Kia. Just Google their current class action lawsuit. 2017 Santa Fe sport with 62k miles has been sitting at dealership with seized engine for 3 weeks and no answer on if warranty will cover it.

The technology in the base SEL trim is ridiculous. I was completely blown away. When I test drove one for the first time, I couldn’t believe the amount of technology and safety features.

We got the best price on 2022 MDX last year from the dealer in New Orleans. We looked all over including Dallas, Houston, Beaumont, and Baton Rouge. All had higher “package add ons” that were not optional.

Wut

Nissan? Sure.

But Hyundai/Kia? Naw dog. Not even close to the worst Asian manufacturer not named Nissan (Mitsubishi).

You're also forgetting Chrysler/Dodge products and Euro companies like Fiat, Landrover, etc.

Hyundai and Kia and currently in the middle of a class action lawsuit. Hyundai is/recently did a recall on shite engines. 2017 Santa Fe sport is sitting at dealership with seized engine, yes regular maintenance was done on car. I’m on week 3 with no answers due to how many seizes engines are at the dealership currently. do yourself a favor and go Honda or Toyota. Just got a 2024 Grand Highlander. May not be as flashy but I know that car will last.

We test drove what seems like every 3 row in the market.

We ended up with the top of the line Palisade (Limited). ~$50k +TTL. If you aren't looking at the name on the vehicle, it was hard for me to justify paying for anything else after the test drives, warranty, features/finishes at that price point.

My current Kia is burning oil with 110,000 miles on it. I google the engine and it is a well known problem that after 100K it will burn oil. I'm hoping to keep it running until next summer before having to replace it. Won't be buying Hyundai/Kia again.

No, Hyundai makes good cars and they’re going to get even better. They’re not Toyotas, but certainly better than American cars.

Your points are well taken, but there will come a day when they will gladly negotiate at MSRP or below. It's just sort of sleazy that they are in essence price gouging their customers. Count me out. I certainly understand that my position has no affect on the overall dealer's pricing but I will not be one to go along with it and contribute to this practice. I don't need that Palisade that badly.
