STOP RELYING ON DEALERS to shop.
Are you saying that it's possible to buy at hyundai.com and bypass the dealer? I wouldn't think this is an option.

Was just going to mention this dealer.

Your points are well taken, but there will come a day when they will gladly negotiate at MSRP or below.
Ok so wait?

but I will not be one to go along with it and contribute to this practice. I don't need that Palisade that badly.
I guess you answered your own question? Looks like you’re just going to wait.

Why don’t you go try to negotiate for what you want? Have this same approach and attitude when you talk to them. If they really need to sell a car before the end of the month, they may give you what you want. If not, they’ll tell you to take a hike and you can.

I would be ashamed to reveal this publicly

Hyundai and Kia and currently in the middle of a class action lawsuit. Hyundai is/recently did a recall on shite engines. 2017 Santa Fe sport is sitting at dealership with seized engine, yes regular maintenance was done on car. I’m on week 3 with no answers due to how many seizes engines are at the dealership currently. do yourself a favor and go Honda or Toyota. Just got a 2024 Grand Highlander. May not be as flashy but I know that car will last.
Great anecdote.

You will be searching and waiting for a very, very long time

Ok, Google “Hyundai engine problems” and you’ll see it’s far from anecdotal. By all means, think what you want, but there’s at least two people in this thread experiencing said engine issues on top of the endless people on Hyundai forums and Reddit.

Whatever you save up front on the Hyundai, you’ll lose that and more on the tail end.
My 2011 Sonata went 140,000 miles before I upgraded to a 2015 Sonata, which went for 130,000 miles before I upgraded in 2020 to the Telluride. For both the Sonatas, I did nothing more than oil changes and spark plugs at 100,000. That is literally it.

How do some of you fricks survive

Wife and I bought a used one last year with 25,000 miles. We got it for 40k, that was the best deal. We found it at Baton Rouge Audi.

Definitely a struggle to keep up with demand on some vehicles.

Gold Tiger, email me ...
I have a deposit on a '24 Calligraphy for MSRP. I spent over a month and called at least 30+ dealers in Gulf Coast and I can share my list/notes. I can also share a daily built inventory/in-transit list that makes it a lot easier to find specific trim, color, and price. Just FYI - just getting MSRP doesn't get you past dealer mandatory add-ons like paint protection, vehicle service package, etc. A lot of dealers will get their money one way or another, very few are true MSRP + TTL for OTD.
Funny enough, the highest markup in the entire Gulf Coast was All Star Hyundai right here in Baton Rouge.

I love Toyotas, but best I can find this lawsuit is related to one specific engine. So it's not indicative of the Palisades 3.8L.
Toyota has had several class action lawsuits, so if you are looking for a brand without lawsuits or major recalls you will be walking everywhere.
And kia and Honda are pretty similar in most reliability rankings now also, fyi

Exactly. They made a shite engine across a lot of Kia/Hyundai vehicles. Every manufacturer has made similar mistakes.

The lawsuit is a specific engine but there’s a bunch of stuff on engines burning oil and seizing, I believe mostly related to the Santa Fe, which happened to us. Sure, it’s not a palisade, just giving personal experience.

I like how your anecdotal evidence is due to your former car being one of the most notoriously unreliable vehicles on the road

This is the key for you - if you are willing to wait, then you remain in control.
If you are in a bind and just have to get a new car, the market will dictate the prices more than you will.
