Business Negotiations between different ethnicities...

I have a meeting for work I need to schedule in the near term. The meeting revolves around a negotiation between myself and the owner of a thing of value who is of East Asian descent.
My question is in regards to the customs, traditions and behaviours of East Asian people in business negotiations where they may not know the other party all that well. In specific, should you seat a neutral party translator closest to the person of East Asian descent, or should you seat yourself closest and then have the translator flank you or them?
Or better yet, would it be a show of respect to seat the translator-even if we obtain them and they are neutral-on their side instead of ours?
I've Googled a ton of research papers on this and they're all really basic and vague. I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight into how to ensure that I'm not disrespecting anyone but also paying attention to customs and traditions the right way.
Any help is appreciated.

These are excellent questions...
I think that I know that they don't like jokes about Pearl Harbor or the ugly clothes that Mao wore and the Vietnam war....Ask them if they have seen 'The Deer Hunter'...

The book you're looking for is "Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands" by Terri Morrison

You should ask the translator. They've probably done this before.

Walk in, whip your American dick out and piss on his shoe. Then look into his eyes, smile, and whisper "Hiroshima, bitch." Establish dominance.

Looks promising. Thanks a ton for the advice.

Whatever you do don't smile. Showing your teeth is a sign of aggression in East Asian cultures. Take him to a nice bukkake bar afterwards

I don't know about East Asians but Indian people are hard as frick to deal with.
That won't pay for anything until they have haggled forever.

OP reminds me of a funny story my Dad told me awhile ago.
He was working for a large company that was trying to break onto the international stage. One of the first big prospects they had was the Mexican government.
Before sales meetings starting being scheduled and whatnot, the CEO and the VP of Sales called a meeting with the people who'd be involved in the sales process about cultural differences and how it's important to honor and respect the culture of the prospects when you're in their country (i.e. speak their language, follow their customs, etc.).
One of the sales managers replied, 100% serious.
"frick, if it'll help us land this account, I'll learn to speak some Mexican."
After the room is dead silent for a few seconds, The VP points to him and says to the room "That's exactly the kind of shite we need to avoid, guys."

I'm going to write a business book and include all of these tips and tricks I've been graced with like so much manna from heaven. Of that you can be sure, brochachai.
90% of the reason anyone posts a topic like this here is to field the foolishness and DV's from the denizens of the OT. The other 10% is to be able to sift through that foolishness and find semisolid intel.

You're bringing a translator to a rub n' tug?
Damn man, they know why you're there, you usually don't even have to speak

Word to the wise: remember Pearl Harbor!

Be sure to squint the entire time. This will let him know you see him and yourself as the same and will put him at ease.
Having a prostitute (but an attractive one!!) give him a blowie during the meeting will also help foster good relations.
