Oh frick that.

Is she playing at Carnegie Hall? Does she have a record deal?

I bought my son a trumpet for his 11th birthday. It was $80 and he can certainly play it better than I can. The only way he's getting an $8000 trumpet is if he's a recording artist and paying for it himself.

Even if he got a scholarship at LSU and is playing in the GBFTL (to which I hope happens one day), I'm sure a trumpet less than $8k would suffice.

The fact you're even entertaining a scheme to talk her out of it is pathetic. Whatever happened to telling a kid no?

eta again: No seriously, what kind of spoiled brat is your daughter expecting you to pay $8k for a violin regardless if it is fake or not.

shite, my son's birthday is in December and said to me "Dad, this is my birthday and Christmas gift". I promised him I'd never do that to him. Don't want to be that guy but sounds like my son is a better person than your spoiled daughter.

Is that a 3/4 or are your hands so big it makes a 4/4 look small? Just asking because I'm not sure.

It’s 4/4. I’ve been told my hands are larger than average.

Watch it be actually worth $80,000 and op misses out on a chance to profit.

It was Mirecourt Duiffopruggar's prototype, first of his creation or something which is why he's seeing red flags

If your daughter is as good as you and she thinks she is, she doesn't need an $8000 violin.

My experience with musical instruments outside of the hand-me-down piano my siblings and I played: my uncle played french horn in the NY Philharmonic. My brother still has the french horn he got from Northwestern Middle school.

Neither of them cost $8000.

Dont be an idiot.

The history behind this style of violin is entertaining. In the early 1800’s a French luthier named Vuillaume started telling everyone he had The first violin ever made (Gaspar Duiffopuggar’s violin) from the 1560s and was making exact replicas of it. The thing was, Duiffopuggar never made a violin. One of his students is credited with making the first one, but many mistakenly thought Duiffopuggar was the father of the violin. Vuillaume carved Gaspar’s head on his bullshite replica in order to drum up business. He then hired Derazey to make them for him, and Derazey’s versions are considered the highest quality. So I got a fake of a fake, which is somehow fitting. And the oddest thing is that she played a real Derazey next to the fake and the fake sounded better.

Seems like violin sound can be tricky. Never really played them much myself, isnt a comfortable position to play an instrument imo.

I have a friend who plays cello in her band, its converted and she often runs it through stomp boxes and an amp. She has one from the 1600s that ive never heard in person, but it's cool to think about the history of an old instrument and how many ears have heard it.

I would cancel your credit card you gave them right away. Then work out the details on price and if it’s a fake.

I have no issue with an $8000 instrument though anyone that would spend more than $8000 on a watch is certifiably crazy.

The issue nobody has brought up is what would be freaking me out. I left the store with a $8k violin and I am returning with a 'Merican fiddle.
