Brought home an $8000 violin and found out it’s fake - Updated

Update:
My daughter had a jam session this afternoon and her instructor was able to play and listen to both the violins we have on trial. She was blown away by the one I didn’t mention in this thread (a 1903 F. Lincoln Johnson) that is a paltry $2700. The Derazey was too risky for her taste with multiple repairs and no makers mark. We didn’t get into my theories on it’s origin. My daughter is was very happy with both violins and now favors the cheaper violin because her instructor was so emphatic.
I still want to have the counterfeit conversation when I bring the violin back to the shop to see what they say.
Turns out my offspring is good at something, unlike me, and needed to step up her violin game. She played every violin in Nashville save intermediate and beginner. She whittled it down to 2, both of which we have on 2-week trials. The one she is leaning towards is a 170 year old French rig with an $8000 price tag.
One of the labels inside caught my eye and sent me down a rabbit hole researching the history of the maker. A couple red flags popped up and over several hours I’ve pieced together several facts that leave me almost positive that this violin was not made by Derezay and that in the 1880s an American luthier took a broken violin and made it look like a Mirecourt Duiffopruggar. Luckily, he stamped it and I was able to take it from there and figure out the rest with the help of Google images.
Here’s my conundrum: I’m pissed at the shop that it came from for either being really shitty and knowingly trying to pass this thing off on me, or being so incompetent that a relative novice can spot a fake before they can....but it sounds better than violins 5x the price.
My daughter wants the violin, but I know myself and I cannot not be an a-hole when I let them know that I know it’s a fake. How do I get this violin for $350 without getting kicked out of the store first?

There’s no way a music shop is letting your daughter trial run an actual 170 y/o French violin.
There’s your answer.
There’s your answer.

Bring in an “expert” (a friend in on the deal) to examine in and pronounce it a fake

There’s always a devil somewhere down in Georgia you could try and out play for a new one

You came to the OT of all places looking for advice on an $8k dollar violin?
well sir....
you came to the right place. I'm sure many experts in antiquities and musical history will be along shortly to help you with your conundrum.

Subtle brag that I know it's not worth it but I have $8,000 to blow on a fake. Sounds like you are the fake.

fake violins are nothing to fiddle with

did you actually buy it with a transfer of cash, did they provide a written appraisal document from a knowledgeable third party.
if that happened you may have a case for cash return
if that did not happen you are wasting our time
trying to beat down the price by a factor of 26 times will get you removed by police in any reputable store

None of this happened

Contact a reputable 3rd party and have it appraised
Then you have proof

How bored must you be to make up some shite like this and post it on the OT?

No and no. I gave them a credit card number to put on file along with my personal info and they handed me the violin and said see you on Jan 7th.

350 was for the OT. Realistically, based on the sound it produces, I’d pay $3000 for it knowing that I’d likely never get that back if I decided to sell or trade for something better later.

We’ve clearly never met if you think I’m bragging over 8 grand. I was wearing a watch that costed more than the fake violin.

Your are correct we have never met. I'm not sure what the watch you were wearing costed. It may also be a fake; not sure, just saying I don't know what it costed you.

Take a picture of the $8000 plus watch too with the sign in it.
