the gray area would be whether her tweet is an actual call to violence.
you can’t tell people to go light a hotel on fire.
Black: Go set the hotels that give them asylum on fire
White: I wouldn’t care if the hotels they were in went up in flames.
Grey: set their hotels on fire, see if I care.
part of the issue here was that there were some riots after where people attacked some mosques and set a police station on fire.
31 months is a lot though.
So are you suggesting that the prosecutors were able to prove that her single tweet is what lead to the widespread (mostly peaceful?) riots? Seems like a high burden of proof and highly unlikely there was that relationship.

I cannot say what the burden would be in England. And again, free speach protection in Europe
isn’t anywhere near what it is here and never has been.
In America, I think calling for
someone to murder someone is illegal whether they do or don’t, but your definitely more likely to get charged if they try to.

The British government will do this and then wonder how Reform wins the next election.

Understood, but what they're doing is normalizing this type of authoritarian 1984-style governance, and it's already a thing and then some in the Muslim world. It's already started to pervade the mindset of a large chunk of our population, so I find this very concerning. The trend is certainly in the wrong direction big time.

Not surprising you agree with the sentence though.
I am pretty sure I have said the sentence is too harsh.

Yeah, you can't do this, and they do go to jail for it
Alaska Man Arrested for Threatening U.S. Supreme Court Justices, Their Family Members
quote:
An Alaska man was arrested yesterday in Anchorage for allegedly threatening to injure and kill six U.S. Supreme Court Justices and some of their family members.
According to court documents, between March 10, 2023, and July 16, Panos Anastasiou, 76, sent over 465 messages to the Supreme Court through a public website the court maintained.
“We allege that the defendant made repeated, heinous threats to murder and torture Supreme Court Justices and their families to retaliate against them for decisions he disagreed with,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “Our justice system depends on the ability of judges to make their decisions based on the law, and not on fear. Our democracy depends on the ability of public officials to do their jobs without fearing for their lives or the safety of their families.”
Saying they don't like the justices or their opinions I totally agree should be protected.

In general I agree with you.
I think free speach is important, even speach you don’t like.
I believe people in America have a right to be Nazis so long as they aren’t telling their followers to go shoot jews.
There is and always have been some limits to this.

Damn, you had to ignore spellcheck of the same word twice in the same sentence. Impressive.

It depends on the situation. It’s a way more complicated issue. But you can be held liable for speech.

ooooh, that’s easy.

Biden, Garland and Co jailed a man for 7 months for an internet joke. I’d say it’s already here.

Actually he is the one usually in jail. Not his momma. He don't know her

No, it's not. See people saying they wished the assassin was successful against Trump.
You can most certainly say "I wish someone would actually pull off an assassination of Trump" That is protected. As it should be.
What you can't say is "I'm going to assassinate Trump" It's the direct threat that matters.

nice, I am sure you learned that getting your PhD.

never claimed to have a PhD.
doesn’t take a doctorate degree to understand basic biology. most of this learned this 4th or 5th Physical Science, at the latest. Yet is something that eludes you and your progressive allies.
