They are now saying the river has surpassed it's anticipated crest of 53.5 feet and still rising.

And to make things worse, here in North Texas we had heavy rain yesterday in Granbury (enough to have the city declare a code red and ask everyone to stay home since even the fire trucks got stuck). That's way upstream on the Brazos and that water has to go somewhere (Lake Granbury and Lake Whitney don't have any more room).

Here is a comparison of the water level in Richmond. Top pic was taken about 10:30 this morning. The river is still rising by tenths of an inch. It was supposed to crest yesterday.

That's crazy. I used to live over off Williams Way so I know exactly where that is. This twitter link has a lot of pics and vids as well.

looking at the map I wonder why there are no reservoirs on the Brazos after Lake Whitney. Sure seems like it would be a good idea to collect all that water for the rice farmers, etc.

There were plans for more reservoirs other than Whitney, Granbury, and PK (up to as many as 13). However, a 1960 book, Goodbye to a River, essentially turned public opinion against dam building and thus you have what you have today.

It's a shame that we let that some book mess things up for everyone. Could have had more (typically badly needed) water for farmers, cities, better flood control, clean hydroelectric power, and a lot more recreational lakes than we do now. All because some SJW wrote a sob-story about a nasty muddy river.

Buddy from the county just texted me...the river is still actually rising a bit in Richmond but they don't expect it to get over 55'. BUT we are expecting 3-7" of rain between now and Friday and it has nowhere to go.

Eta...and now it just started raining

Sugar Land Memorial Park next to the Brazos. 2:00 mark, I know some sweating residents in First Colony/Telfair right now.

It's nut cutting time. We should be fine from the Brazos here but if we get swamped with rain today there is nowhere for it to drain to. They already evacuated the stables in sienna about half mile from me.

We live in the fulshear/simonton area. Have many friends that have flooded homes. Not a pretty sight. Still have a few feet to go before it gets in my home but with all the rain we are expecting it might. There are those in much worse shape than me, many animals and valuables have been lost.

We're good but it's raining here right now.

I think places around Pecan Grove are about to be evacuated. Pitts and Harlem road area.

I had to go over by 99 the Tuesday evening and took University to get there. Wow, that was nuts. I don't remember it being like that last year during memorial day. Basically the brazos is runs all the way to University now. When I went over the river you couldn't tell where the actual river was because it just looks like one giant lake.
