Yes, Rodney is in Magnolia Woods but it connects to Applewood Rd. in Walden through Chandler, so very close to Walden.

I live in this area, and there have been a lot of posts on Nextdoor in the last few months about unlocked cars being ransacked. Although this string of breaking in by smashing windows is "new", it has happened before. About 15 years ago, someone smashed my husband's truck window and stole his work laptop which he stupidly forgot to bring into the house.

Change the title to BURGLARIES.

Robberies happen to individuals, burglaries happen to vehicles, residences, and businesss.

Also from a post on Nextdoor (not written by me):

quote:

I attended a recent HOA meeting for Rouzan. Hillar Moore and Detective Arceneaux who is in charge of burglaries for our areas came and spoke. Detective Arceneaux stressed the importance of not leaving anything valuable in cars parked on the street at night. He also said it’s best to leave the doors unlocked, which seems counterintuitive, but alleviates the issue of smashed windows that will have to be replaced.

It really seems weird to purposely leave cars unlocked...someone recently pointed out that the reason people's cars were being ransacked was because so many people leave their doors unlocked and it's considered "easy pickings". I guess you can't win no matter what you do; thieves are going to thieve.

I'm really surprised some of these guys are still smashing windows.

Many of those guys have a device that can open your car remotely. Its a little larger than a cell phone. Press the button, the lights come on, then doors unlock, and they are in no problem.

This does occur in some areas of Houston. However, they dont dare try to break into homes because well they'll wind up dead.

Probably the Apple Dumpling Gang.

This is why I live behind a locked gate with an armed guard at the front.

Gated neighborhoods and one entrance/one exit neighborhoods are a solution to this. I wouldn’t buy in big open neighborhoods like Southdowns or Kenilworth now with BR being ravaged by criminals

If you ever want to be victim shamed then report a car break in to police. When the detective gets there they basically tell you how it is your fault for leaving something in your car etc. Then you get the feeling from asking questions that you'll never see them again, your stuff and it will not get solved. And the burglary detectives just do that all day never solving any crimes.

Why not per captita?

You need to do it per capita of areas burglarized in Houston. There are areas in Houston with none and areas where tons happen.

Meh, this shite isn't happening in the "nice" parts of Lafayette, it is in Baton Rouge.

Our crime is generally not infiltrating the "good" areas.

I agree, parts of NW Houston have been hit hard. Its nor just young kids, its an orchestrated group with devices that can open unlocked cars.

My area has had very few problems, but some have been hit in waves.

Only on the OT could a thread about burglaries in Southdowns turn into an argument about Lafayette vs Houston.

Those subdivisions are all in BR.
BRPD patrols those areas.
BRPD is undermanned and the bad guys know it. So is the sheriff.

But our fearless leaders spend our tax dollars on green ways, engineering studies, bike sharing, empty buses, new camera systems, etc., and not public safety.
