BR Panhandling Thread: Should We Make Giving Money To Beggars Illegal?

I was thinking about this as I was driving down Bluebonnet the other day and there was a bum on every corner of the I-10 on/off ramps. There's a lot of towns that have made it a fineable offense, with tickets between $50-100 for giving anything to panhandlers.
Charlotte, NC
Pensacola, FL
Newark, NJ
Madison, WI
As a future St. Georgian, I'd like to propose our first law be a $1000 fine for giving to bums...
Maybe offering a $50 bonus to each EBR Deputy for every panhandling ticket they can write.

its pathetic no one has ran them off.
The gas station right there next to cadillac cafe, etc allows them to charge their phones in the outlet outside.

No, you don't make the act of Charity illegal.
You make panhandling illegal and you enforce it.

Absolutely on board. They wouldn't stand around and beg for money if jackasses didn't keep giving them money. Donate to charity if you want to feel good about yourself

In Northern Virginia where everyone has money to give there are zero panhandlers. I don’t get it.

Yes, do it. I'm tired of seeing bums.

I was at a stoplight last week and there was a panhandler on the corner with a dog. I cant stand when someone who can't take care of themselves has a dependent as well.
There was a truck driver in the lane next to me, he honked his horn and the guy scurried over to his door and the truck driver throws him some food... a single serving can of dog food
You love to see it. The human can work, the dog can't.

The amount of urban yutes begging on street corners for "basketball uniform" money has fricking exploded.

Absolutely!
Take away incentive to beg and they'll go elsewhere. Hopefully California!

I know it's been mentioned before here, but there's a massive homeless encampment in the woods between Bluebonnet and Seigen, behind the Jefferson Terrace neighborhood. That Chevron is basically their mall.

The panhandler already has zero incentive to fear the law. i'm willing to bet each and every one of them has been jailed for something in the past and it's clearly done nothing. In lieu of that, you have to bring the laws to those that will actually respect and abide by them.

I don’t think you should make giving them money illegal. You want government out of your business but want them to tell you who you can and can’t give your money to?
What they should do is making holding up traffic illegal. Not the actual act of giving money. So it would apply to someone handing them drinks, food, toiletries, etc. But most importantly, just make panhandling on public roads illegal. That’s the easiest fix. They can go do it in the Target parking lot all the want and Target can decide to run them off if they want to. But on publicly funded roads? No way. Not like they are paying any taxes to fund those roads.

I'd prefer if we just incarcerated all of the beggars. I don't have any issue with people soliciting funds.
I have a huge issue with being accosted by some dirty, greasy street person at a gas station, at a traffic signal, or in the Target parking lot. lock these frickers up and when you eventually release them, do it at the bus station and tell them to get out of town.

Here in Houston, in the mecca of traffic, there is a sign that reads "It's ok to not give panhandlers money".....with a bum right next to it

Soliciting money through panhandling is illegal in Louisiana. Seems like it would be easier to just ask the police to enforce the current laws instead of making new ones.

Is this where the small gov conservatives beg for more government regulation and laws to punish harmless optional actions?
