Have they decided to bid out the work or are they still trying to do this illegally under their maintenance contract?

It's not unusual for such a complicated project to double in cost. Happens all the time.

The contractors were probably looking for drugs.

How many times have you resurfaced a street? There's a lot that goes into it, and if you want it done right you have to pay for it.

Well, in fairness the money is being handled by and given to criminals.

And shooting tourists on Bourbon and escaping just got tougher for the next decade while everything is torn up.

And yet the contractors will still be paid for the initial contract cost. Where does the extra money go? Hmmm. Check the freezers.

Except that it wasn't done as a bid, it was done as maintenance. So there is no end.

I think Mitch is a terrible mayor, but all major cities go through this when it comes to major construction. Its not unusual to New Orleans.

They knew this was going to have some unpredictable hiccups and should've budgeted accordingly. They're gonna change order this thing into oblivion.

Either you are a Landrieu or the contractor. Or maybe both?

All Major cities have a Mayor who fraudulently hands a massive job to his cousin under the guise of maintenence contract in order to circumvent the bidding process? And then gives that cousin a blank check rubber stamp to change the entire scope and nature of the project including doubling the time and price.

Wow. That's sucks for all major cities.

This had to be expected, regardless of which company got that contract.

Its basically an archaeological dig down there. They have no clue what they'll find.

In a news release issued Wednesday, the mayor's office said the city's original estimate of $6 million for the full eight-block Bourbon is moot. Instead, the project will cost over $13 million.

Called this in the old thread

It honestly isn't surprising. There's no accurate mapping or documentation of all the utility work that's taken place beneath the streets and you're talking about a neighborhood that was gridded out 300 years ago next year.

As a guy on construction who manages multi million dollar projects..... If a project is projected to overrun that much, heads would roll

While siphoning the funds from a federal crime prevention fund to pay for it.

Ever heard of the Big Dig, friend?

Mitch needs to go, but this is par for the course for most construction projects. Unless you have stats to show other cities are more efficient? I'll wait.
