Why would you buy a watch on kickstarter?

KS and micro-brand watches in general are quite loved in the enthusiast community. They can have very interesting designs (some great, some awful, and some meh) but they almost always excel in value. One can build a nice collection of 10 micro-brands for what an entry-level Rolex would cost. They also are often easy to flip if you decide you don't like them since you can usually get most if not all your money back, maybe a few bucks more. This often happens with KS and some micro-brand watches because they may only get made once. Plus if you get one of the highly discounted early birds on KS and people end up wanting it afterwards when the price goes up you might be able to packet a couple of hundred bucks if you aren't enthralled with it.

The Audric watch in question is a very nice looking 500m diver with a Swiss Sellita SW200 movement. It has a nice 70's diver vibe.

I did Kickstarter for the Groove Belt (by Groove Life) and it worked out fine. I love the belt, definitely worth it from my end.

Yes. This has to be one of the biggest Kickstarter scams ever. Maybe 2% of the people got something and the ‘company’ walked away with 1.1 million of everyone’s money. Thieves.

These KS stories are why I have never invested in KS. I have started, built and sold a couple of businesses and I never bought into the idea of crowdfunding. If your business is legit and viable there are plenty of avenues to build operating capital. If you can’t access that funding there is a reason. Anyone investing in one of these is gambling and should take the loss just like you take craps when you roll the dice.

Yep

I should have asked OT. Amazing how bad or unrealistic these companies are

I've never not received an item on KS that was fully funded on their goal.

It might take longer than expected... but it always came.

This includes a watch.

Anybody get hosed on kickstarter

This seems to be overwhelmingly common. Over promised and under delivered. Assuming you get your watch at all, it won't be what was promised.

I’ve ordered 2 watches on Kickstarter now. Both delivered as good or better than advertised. Neither were the first offering from the company so not a complete leap of faith.

You just reminded me that I did indeed get hosed by a kickstarter. Started by a friend of mine, no less. Might have to call him out for it now.

I did an Idigogo and realized I misread my favorite feature. Canceled and it was refunded the next day.

I bought a couple Pebble watches on Kickstarter. Took over a year but they started the fund then made a production watch. Kept updates for the whole process.
