Why does everyone have a different answer for when it started to go downhill?

It was not Cangelosi. I don't want to say who. There's a lawsuit pending though. My guess is that there's going to eventually be a bankruptcy and then they'll seize his assets and sell off to pay creditors.

There's a Parrain's a few miles down the road from Sammy's highland, that would be pointless. Mason's is a glorified burger joint, like Sammy's. Parrain's is thought of as a seafood first joint anyway.

Because they're all right. That's how badly it is run these days.

Was there ever an exact explanation for why the Zachary location of Sammy’s shut down?

Walk Ons shouldn’t have been putting that much of a hurt on it.

I lived in Zachary until about 5 years ago and that place was constantly packed. It wasn’t because business was slow.

Even L’Auberge Baton Rouge, a supposedly upper class establishment, has nothing but older women or moms of 2 serving drinks and dealing cards

And the problem with that is....?????

Used to love getting a roast beef poboy before and after games there in early to mid 2000’s

Got the number of a waitress from Vermont that was working there. Turns out she came to LSU with her ex boyfriend who was on the football team. Noped out of that situation quickly

Sammy & JJ we’re partners..so technically he bought JJ out. Probably the beginning of his money issues (IDK.)
JJ was Sammys, the crew he put together was a well oiled machine. The guys who ran Sammys for JJ were 1st class professionals in the industry.

Hey, I'm not necessarily asking for Parrain's to be there. But there's zero doubt it would do well considering all the people in the area that went to Sammy's for years.

While Parrain's isn't far mileage-wise, I'd hardly call the overpass close to Staring/Highland.

Selfishly, I'll take any decent place in the location (not Masons). I haven't been to Sammy's in years, but would love to have something in addition to Superior on this strip of Highland.

Sammy's Grill

This food concept is played out for me. Sammy's, George's, Parrains, La Lagniappe, etc are all serving the same shite. There will be more restaurant closures in the near future because we have too many of them.

Highland was the first location. It was I believe the Wart Hog Saloon a biker bar and Sammy was the manager at George’s at Perkins Road overpass and left to buy that bar and opened the original Sammy’s.

This is what I remember. I worked in the kitchen in summer/fall of '91. It was actually a quaint place and the back patio was about a year old. Sammy also opened a Sammy's Bistro in '92-93 with Geo. I'm drawing a blank on that location.
